genuinely great blur rarities/b sides/ etc

the new album has me in a bit of a blur revival mood.
when they're good they really are great.
have heard murmurs of a demo version of 'country house' out there
that's totally at odds with the single,
and hilarious live versions of
daisy bell, etc.

i don't think that in 2 years of P2P/mp3s and such that i've
pressed 'blur' into a search once prior to 'think tank'.
who has ?
and what did yers find ?

Oh GOD, don't get me started. Blur B-sides are invariably better than the A-sides cause that's where they had free reign and weren't trying so hard to be Important. My singles boxset is at home, which has every B-side they've ever made. You want the Modern Life era B-sides, those are incredible and wonderful and ... erm. I will post more when I'm home and looking at titles. I like the sort of Fried, Tame, Young & Lovely, Shimmer, Mace sort of sub-Cope stuff. Yum.

"Peach" is unspeakably fantastic. And in its own strange Albarn-tinged way, "When The Cows Come Home" is dead cute and poignant aswell IMHO.

yes! Peach! Or is it Beachcoma that I'm thinking... argh. Wish I had the titles here.

I used to collect all the Blur cd-singles (those irritating two-parter things....whose idea was that? Bastards!) and have since parted company with many of'em. That said, faves remain:

- Live version of "Popscene" as found on the Blur-ti-Go yank promo disc.
- "Daisy Bell" from the Sunday Sunday Popular Community Song CD
- "Mace" from the "Popscene" CD-single (the A-side is great as well).
- "I'm All Over" from the "Ther's No Other Way" CD-single.

"Beachcoma" is great. (B-side of "for tomorrow, which I also like a lot) It sounds dead syd barrett-y. One if the boys & girls b's was really good as well IIRC.

I always liked:

Polished Stone
St Louis
A Song
One Born Every Minute
Ludwig

Kate is otm. I still think Young & Lovely is probably the best thing they've ever done.

Man, this is bugging me. I've got an mp3 set of all the Blur B's up through the Great Escape days and I can't remember "Young and Lovely" at all! Remind me how it goes?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

(Ascending melody) You can get what you want... so young and lovely aaah-aaah-ahhh, la la laaah...

But then it gets mixed up with the song that goes "I've got time to build you up so tall, you won't fall down on me" ::great Graham riff:: but I'm not sure if that's the same song.

kate, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

No, that's different, but I like that one a lot as well. I can't for the life of me remember the name of it though.
