I'm going with "Venus and the Razor Blades" just because it was the most contrived and I'm fond of it

"Motorboat", the solo single.

I've always had a thing for the Quick, though. "Hilary" rocks.

I'm easy. The Runaways.

Deadend Justice is the best girls in prison song ever.

"Joan! Joan I'm down! My ankle!"
"I can't go on, but I can't leave you! What do I do?"
"Save yourself, you know what you've gotta do!"
"Oh my GOD!!!"

Oh, the hours I spend reciting this with my friends in my youth. Sigh. "They beat me with a board/it hurt just like a sword." God, what a masterpiece!

The Murmaid's "Popsicles and Icicles" single (early 60s girl group song, produced by Fowley)

Hypnotic.

I just got a Bomp! compilation from 1980 and it has this sleeve-note:

KATHY AND THE LAWNMOWERS
Green Children
From Jukebox Rebel Queens [BLP-4013]
Produced by Kim Fowley

According to Fowley, this mixed group of guys 'n gals requested a studio and showed up wearing masks. Seems this was a blind date and none of 'em knew each other. Kim cut the song but when the players unmasked at the end they didn't like each other's looks, so Kathy and the Lawnmowers went their separate ways. Another legend bites the dust...

I was pretty disappointed by the St. John Green lp. I was prepared to like it as I usually like any and all psych, but there wasn't a decent tune in the bunch and it wasn't particularly weird or anything.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 27 March 2003 05:25 (twenty-three years ago)

(1) the Runaways o'course
(2) a song called "Night of the Hunter" off the "Day the World Stood Still" LP
(3) & one off i think "International Heroes" called "California Gypsy Man"

five years pass...

Dyan Diamond's post-V&TR came up on random play today. Not a bad album at all.

So Christgau gives I'm Bad an E-, writing that the cover holds a blank disc. Meltzer says Fowley came in under budget on it. Is it really empty? Physically, that is.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Thursday, 25 September 2008 02:17 (seventeen years ago)

You know, I was contacted last year by the family of the (deceased) guitar player Craig Magee
on that Dyan Diamond album. Apparently they had reel-to-reels of a bunch of unreleased tracks that he had claimed were much better than the actual album. They were going to try to contact Dyan and try to get them reissued. I tend to doubt it'll ever happen, but anyway, there's a tape out there somewhere. xpost.
