Recently, and particularly following a lead from an ILM thread, I got hold of:

the Digital Disco compilation and Data 80 album and both left me somewhat confused about there worth. They're both well made, but very hard to engage with.

Other things (not thru' ILM):

two newest Gary Martin 12"s.

"Is This The Future" LP by Fatback. The title song is still the best song ever made, but thankfully I have it on a compilation, and can get rid of the this lame ass album.

Data 80 sounded alright on first listen...i hadnt read much about it on ILM (or anywhere else)

i was disappointed every time i bought a new 808 State album after 'Ex:El' - didnt think much of 'Gorgeous', 'State To State' or 'Don Solaris' on first listens but they all mature pretty well

Leftfield's 'Rhythm & Stealth' was a BIT of a letdown but half the tracks were and are still great at least

Countess Revenge Of The Horned One I (and II as well). He finally got *really* good with Shining Swords Of Hate, but this is just dissappointing in all aspects. Please mr. Orlok, make some more of that magical doom/ambient and all is forgiven!

the bug "pressure".
man, i don't know. k-mart's compiled some good stuff before. i always fall for thinking "o this'll be good" when he has a new disc out. this time its cyber dancehall (yeah, i know, dancehall is already futuristic). but theres just no play in it. its serious serious stuff. the only track i'd voluntarily listen to again is "Fuck yrself".

Dinky, 80s done right maybe but im not sure what that means to me.

the recent Jan Jelinek and Mira Calix are kind of nice but havent struck me as much more than that.

Little did I know that it was a shite collection of sub-60's shite, by songs that are too long, a frontman who can only sing one tune, and songs that wouldn't know a melody if they were injected in the arm with it.

All in all, shocking. Just flogged it on ebay for £4.60. The sucker!

maybe someday i'll get into "yhf" and "wasp star" - i don't think they're horrible or anything, i just never took to them from the get go and i haven't really been inspired to give them a third chance since. "stripped" on the otherhand suxxx. and not only cuz i was stupidly expecting an album of end to end "dirrty". there are maybe only three songs on it i can stomach.

i didn't buy any of these though, so i won't complain too strongly.

also, i could probably second "forever changes" and add "odessey & oracle" to the list. while i like them and all, they're just not as mind-blowingly great as i'd imagined.

but a list of those things could go on forever...

Stereolab, recommended to me on ILM: just not my cup of tea. I like bits of it, but the disaffected and at times cheesy singing turns me off.
Blind Willie Johnson--'Cold was the Ground' is great, but, once again, I have a problem getting past his voice. Too gruff--and I usu don't mind a little gruffness.
