What should I listen to next?

In my belated attempt to get to know rock music I have been listening to the following:

Motorhead
The Voidoids
AC/DC
Black Sabbath
Sex Pistols

I think I like it best when it rocks in a no-nonsense kind of way, and I like it lo-fi but beefy too. What should I listen to next? Old or new.

when in doubt, the default option is always cheap trick

Citing the Datsuns is a ballsy move. I'm glad someone else did it first.

Danzig - self-titled (1988)
Fu Manchu - The Action is Go (1997)
Monster Magnet - Spine of God (1992)

Paul Cox (paul cox), Friday, 6 June 2003 04:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Second Cheap Trick - the earlier LPs are the better IMHO.

As for the Datsuns - it's a good call for someone wanting to get to know rock music - it's all in there like a history of the world in 60 minutes!

Bill E (bill_e), Friday, 6 June 2003 04:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, that was supposed to be I second Cheap Trick

maybe i'm in danger of being the alex-in-nyc of this band but can i say it again, SIR LORD BALTIMORE, "KINGDOM COME".
Also get into neo garage rock from the classic period late '80s/mid-90s : supercharger, headcoats, night kings, mummies, ripoffs, oblivians, gories/demolition doll rods/blacktop/etcearly New Bomb Turks ...there was a great period of tat stuff there for a while w/ pretty much anything on In The Red being magically fresh dunno how they kept comin up w. it shit, Bag Of Hammers was pretty consistent there too, Sympathy had their solidest run of stuff, etc...is it too early for the neo-retro- i loved neo-retro-garage rock before it was (whatever) revival fad, i'm sayin NO IT TAINT. see & this guy's saying the same http://www.agonyshorthand.blogspot.com/2003_05_25_agonyshorthand_archive.html#200354648
also you should get the Dictators "Go Girl Crazy", a lone too-early/no maybe too late classic from 75 that i think might've
