Sonic Youth not playing in Boston tomorrow, may not play rest of week

This is important news for anyone planning to attend the Sonic Youth/Wilco show in Boston, and the rest of the shows on that tour scheduled for this week.

This comes directly from the Sonic Youth official site:

Hey everybody this is a heads up to say that due to forces and some personal situations beyond our control Sonic Youth will NOT BE appearing with Wilco at the Boston date on Monday the 23rd.... Sorry.... We'll miss seeing you all............... The dates after that (Connecticut, New York, Philly and DC) are still in limbo at the moment---we hope to be able to make them but we have to see how some things play out---watch this space for more news soon---but I repeat---as of now Sonic Youth will NOT be appearing with Wilco in Boston---We assume the Wilco show will go ahead as planned--but we've no idea if they will have another opener or not.... We're not sure at this time what the refund situation is. - Lee & SY

Mission Of Burma should have filled in for Sonic Youth in '97 or Wilco in '03 when those headlined Penn State's Movin' On Music Festival. Mission would have converted some frat muthas.

I don't get Mission of Burma; I have Vs., and it just doesn't seem to be very good to me. Not terribly catchy, not terribly energetic. I've probably listened to it close to a dozen times since I got it (a few months back, and most of those listenings occurred within the first few weeks), but I still can't hear what made/makes these guys so special.

I saw the first of the recent MoB reunion shows, and they were amazing. I saw SY last year supporting Murray Street, and but for a few exceptions, they seemed to just be going through the motions.

Mission Of Burma's show in detroit was one of the best ones i've seen in the last coupla years.

Sonic Youth's show last year was...okay.

Sonic Youth have updated their site and say they cancelled 2 shows due to "family illness."

Ian J. who doesn't get Mission of Burma's Vs should try some of their other material that's less noisy and more anthemic or poppy. I still like my "Academy fight Song" 7" and Signals, Calls, & Marches 12" more then VS although I like that as well.

I would assume that there was some kind of illness/death in the family for one of the band members. Something like that.

They will be playing in Central Park, and I'm really fucking psyched.
