Angry Music vs. Pseudo-Angry music

I can much more tolerate the latter than the former.

it's all about whether I think they're GOING SOMEWHERE with the anger. Part of what I like about Linkin Park singles is they convey how they feel ABOUT their generic ennui ("In The End" is about how they're gonna stop complaining, "Somewhere I Belong" is about how they'd like to but can't).

I usually need a mix of genuine anger and redeeming popcraft (be it XTC or Limp Bizkit). Anger without the subtle uplift of quality music is disheartening. I'm not the biggest fan of mock anger.

What's that fucking nu-metal song getting airplay at the moment that has lyrics along the lines of "Like it or not, you're gonna listen to me!!!" - that's the fucking gayest thing I've ever heard.

I agree with Scaredy that bands like Anal Cunt are far more appealing than endless whining about how totally pissed off you are with your mum. I'd rather not be pissed off by halves.

Um...Scaredy...which one is the 'fake' anger...the angry guy with the specific complaint (The "I hate my parents" guy) or the Destroy the Handicapped guy?

(Also, call me a sick fuck, but I think the phrase "Destroy the Handicapped" would be a great name for a Skrewdriver cover band.)

That's the new Linkin Park single, "Faint". I actually like it miles more than any other LP song I'd heard. I think it's cos of the weird, nice little synth line going through the non-dullrawkrrr bits. Or maybe they're distorted strings, I can't really tell? And it's very short too.

Nu-metal in my opinion is just a harder version of EMO,am sorry but I see more self-pity than anger. Black Flag, or better known bands like Nirvana had anger, withought becoming redundant..desides these guys really had issues. Linking Park seems more like frustated rap disc jockeys trying hard to be bad, they probably thought that Load from metallica was hardcore. Limp Bizkit is a good businessman..like Madonna but with even less talent. Anger is what Shellac shows in his song Prayer to God. Hell, Sting had more anger than Limp Bizkit.Angry is when I smash my head against the toilet and laugh while crying at the same time holding a bottle of whisky in one hand and mu pants in the other, limp bizkit is more like the spoiled brat that wanted to be cool.But that's just my opinion I could be wrong...then again so could God.

I detest Linkin Park but I love how they shout: "Shut up when I'm talking to you! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" on one of their songs with a very obviously choreographed moshing sequence in its video.

I actually really love really genuine, passionate, heartfelt songs about how "I hate my parents, my boss, police, the government, women/men, big industry,life in general, they're killing the planet, etc." (.... well, maybe not the "women / men" bit so much....); FAR more than inane bollocks about "I'm a murderer,kill for Satan, destroy the handicapped, etc.".

On the other hand 'though I guess at a pinch I'd rather listen to "I'm a murderer,kill for Satan, destroy the handicapped, etc." than faux, impotent, whiny, self-pitying versions of "I hate my parents, my boss, police, the government, women/men, big industry,life in general, they're killing the planet, etc."

The best angry songs make you wanna be angry too without hitting you over the head with it (tho that wld prolly make u angrier come to think). Anyway, the most effective of these I always thought was Mission of Burma's "That's When I Reach For My Revolver" cuz in the chorus he sounds so upset that he has to reach for his gun. Like it's the lastlastlastlastlastlastlasterlastest option there ever will be but he can only be pushed so far (even if it's really goddamned far) and holy shit if you didn't just cross that line. When I listen to it I feel happy and sad and angry and destitute and it makes me wanna watch The Karate Kid.
