zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 1 August 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Children of Bodom, Hatecrew Deathroll. Crazed, lightning-speed black metal with Rick-Wakeman-meets-Atari-2600 keyboard solos on every single track. Album of the year, so far.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I the only one waiting for America's Sweetheart? (Courtney haters, get over it.) And holy shit -- Andrew WK most definitely. Though I'm kinda disappointed because I heard the album was initially titled Blow Your Bone and now it's The Wolf.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil, do you like Happy Family?

dleone (dleone), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot both of those Jeanne but certainly yes. Is Courtney definitely this year then?

Alex in Rotherham (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

From what I keep reading, yes. But who knows... grumblegrumble

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm expecting an astoundingly amazing CD from this group with an astoundingly awful name - Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and I hear that the Peeping Tom* album comes out this fall, finally!

*Peeping Tom = Mike Patton + Dan the Automator with choirs and shit

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

>Phil, do you like Happy Family?

Never heard 'em. Are they metal?

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Friday, 1 August 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Sort of, kind of a metal/hardcore version of Red-era King Crimson with those same Wakeman-meets-Atari keyboard solos. Anyway, your description of Children of Bodom makes me curious.

dleone (dleone), Friday, 1 August 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

zebedee--from the catmobile website--

Randomnumber's indietronica glitchcore epic 'Towards The Forlorn Society' and I Am Robot and Proud's beautifully crafted second album 'Grace Days' are both locked and loaded. Read all about these via the Releases link (to your left) and hold tight for mp3s up in the coming days.

Both releases are tentatively scheduled for release on 7th October.

keith (keithmcl), Friday, 1 August 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I'd be darned well posted outside of the record store in November to wait for the Explosions in the sky album. Oh! Logcabin is releasing an album in August. That one's gonna be superb.

peachlover, Monday, 11 August 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't believe peaches has a street team

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 11 August 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm listening to the new Zoot Woman album for the first time right now, so far (@ track 5) it doesn't really dissappoint but doesn't quite blow me away either. It doesn't seem to venture very very far from the debut.

Needless to say, the one I'm most eagerly awaiting is the upcoming Push album (late september), as well as a mix CD and rumoured huge box set of his older productions (that'll be 2004, I assume).

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 11 August 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"i can't believe peaches has a street team"

Surely a Peaches street team would have a sum negative effect on promotion? Shopkeepers: "Ew gross you sicko do not peddle your wares here!"

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 06:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, never read your response, but no, it is not the debut (which was called "Living in a Magazine", btw) but a follow-up, see also Siegbran's post. And yes, some things do take pretty long to reach the Netherlands, but then again we gave the world Big Brother (the tv-show, of course)...

willem (willem), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Cure B-sides and rarities box set - Oct. 21

Fabrice (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Thankle willem, I had no idea Zoot Woman were planning a second, I'm not sure if there's any point to them doing so. But then I initially thought the same about Black Box Recorder so PROVE ME WRONG ZOOT WOMAN PROVE ME WRONG. Although Siegbran's response suggests that they haven't, lament lament.

Alex in Rotherham (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:41 (twenty-two years ago)

After three listens, still underwhelmed apart from Hope In The Mirror might be the best song they ever did.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)
