gareth, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I heard a Goa trance record once that sampled "Master of Puppets"

dave q, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

* Halo and Hipp-E - "Three to Tango" (for subtlety; i didn't realize it was a guitar for months)

Ural 13 Diktators - "Aerojamit" (for sheer processed robot-nirvana)

Public Enemy - "Caught, Can I Get a Witness?" (for the funk)

Tracer Hand, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The split-second guitar chord (taken I swear from the Selecter) which thrusts us into "Romeo" by B Jaxx (22 seconds into the album). Back to '79 via 2001. A call to arms. A wave of love. Intro of intros?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Beastie Boys sampling the whole of Led Zeppelin IV on Liscense to Ill.

JM, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

most definitely not apollo 440's "stop the rock", anyway... no amount of recontextualising is going to reinvigorate status quo.

sebastianknight, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Utah Saints on "I Want You", sampling "War Ensemble" by Slayer.

Kodanshi, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What was the PE song that sampled "Angel of Death"? That one's good.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 29 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"She Watch Channel Zero"?

I think Tim might agree it's Par-T-One-I'm So Crazy

Every dance record has guitar these days doesn't it?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Does original (non sampled) guitar count too? If so, then 'Watch them Come" by Roy Davis Jr

Pffewww

Jan

The Rockafel[BLAM! Sound of shotgun being fired at head.]

B.Rad (Brad), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

"Santa Cruz" was alright though.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

talking of the bassheads, i heard the hardfloor remix of this originally, you wouldnt think it would work, but its a'reet!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

the 303s are really well behaved, all domesticated!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

KMFDM's "Godlike" sampling of Slayer's "Angel of Death"

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

can we include stuff that *sounds* like sampled rock guitar? if so, the guitar solo in Overload by Sugababes, which sounds like one of those toy guitars you get from poundstretcher.

Wyndham Earl, Thursday, 5 December 2002 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

no amount of recontextualising is going to reinvigorate status quo.

Funny you should mention that - further proof that you're absolutely OTM is in evidence on the new Groove Armada single called (ahem) "Purple Haze", which samples the Quo too.

And to answer the question, Rush's "Spirit Of Radio" sampled on Saint Etienne's "Conchita Martinez" is ace, as is whatever that is at the beginning of 2 Live Crew's "Fuck Shop"...

Charlie (Charlie), Thursday, 5 December 2002 05:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Nobody wants to bring up 'Music Sounds Better With You', do they? Well I will. Simple * Works like a Mudjafugga = AW SAUM.

Tom Millar (Millar), Thursday, 5 December 2002 05:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Tone Loc, "Funky Cold Medina". Dumb meets Dumber and gets STOOOOOPID.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 5 December 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

TOTAL CONFUSION - a homeboy, a hippie & a funki dredd!

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 5 December 2002 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Let me just clarify that the Groove Armada single I started a thread about is called "Final Shakedown" and may not actually be a single.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 December 2002 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

night in motion - cubic 22.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 5 December 2002 13:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Agree with Ronan re "I'm So Crazy". I also like the guitar break in The Chemical Bros' "Out Of Control", which is a New Orderish guitar/electronics meltdown that only Disco Inferno might dare to do better.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 5 December 2002 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Re "Fuck Shop" - that's "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" isn't it? Before Apollo 440 had the same idea even

dave q, Thursday, 5 December 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

toss up between 808 State's 'Cubik' and Death In Vegas' 'Dirt' for me

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 5 December 2002 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

"Area Codes"!

I love the slightly wonky muted guitar pickin on "Dyn-a-mit-ee", too

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 15 December 2002 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

it makes me think of unraveling, or loosening a string on your clothes

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 15 December 2002 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Surgeon's Mogwai Fear Satan remix, where he takes about a half second of the tune and granularizes it into a five minute drone, just completely massive. I guess it's not really a dance record, though. But it's Surgeon.

Tom Millar (Millar), Monday, 16 December 2002 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

The one from the beginning of Exit Planet Dust.

man, Monday, 16 December 2002 12:34 (twenty-three years ago)
