What's yer take on Babyland?

I think I first heard Babyland through Epitonic and I really liked what I heard. I then saw them live and my interest grew. After the show I bought Outlive Your Enemies and You Suck Crap and both have their moments. My knowledge/interest in industrial music is somewhat limited so I'm not sure how Babyland might rank amongst similar bands. So let me know what you think of Babyland and if you think there's some other bands out there that might also be of interest I'd love to hear about them. Thanks.

I love "Mask" on You Suck Crap (I actually have the 7" that predates the album by a year, I believe). I love how it starts off with the now ancient Mac start-up tone.

You might check out vintage Cop Shoot Cop (yeah, I know)) if you dig Babyland. Seek ye: http://www.thepolywog.com/copshootcop/

Thanks for the tip Alex. I checked out the site and I really liked Cause and Effect. Maybe it's just from other threads on ILM that I've heard of the Ask Questions Later album but I'm intrigued enough to pick it up.

I saw Babyland play to ye ol' Koo's cafe in Santa Ana a few years back. They announced one of their songs as "ok, our next song is called 'Fucked Equipment'", thinking that one of their gear was broken and that they were joking. Then lo and behold, on their following record, right there on the track listing.. a song called "Fucked Equipment". In retrospect, my favorite Babyland "story".

And the guys are ravenous Flying Nun band fans. They covered "Pink Frost" didn't they? Also saw them bopping around a Wedding Present show in L.A. around a decade ago.

Apparently, they love harrassing gearheads who only listen to Wax Trax! stuff pre 1990, and went into some classic rant at an L.A. show once. I wish i could quote the entire thing.

Babyland remind me a bit of "Join in the Chant" era Nitzer Ebb. I like their cover of Madonna's Burnin' Up. There is a Punks w/ Electronics thread (or somesuch) around ILM somewhere.

Part of the attraction is how deeply involved the band is in the creation of their unique instruments/sounds and the intensity they have on stage and how well it's shared with the audience and vice versa.

Good ol' Babyland, I like Dan and Smith, had a meal and a beer with them of a time, saw them a row in front of me at Nick Cave a couple of years back, etc. Reviewed most of their albums for the AMG, think they're pretty damn cool.

All I've got is a 7" which seems to be handmade (or at least the cover is photcopied and badly pasted together). Has a computer with teeth on it? Logan's Run is on it I think.

Haven't listened to it in years, and can't actually remember what it sounds like... will listen tonight and report back.
