Stealing music is a fact of life for the business - it's not going to go away - but I've talked to any number of people who are fully download-savvy but also buy records all the time.
The biz is definitely fucked, I think we've all heard the arguments (industry consolidation, no ability to understand audiences or build careers). What's interesting is how little the internet has done to solve that problem, or rather, how much it's shrunk as a force in the industry. The internet radio stations are dying off, mp3.com was shut down by Universal - I've talked to artists who had incredible success marketing their own music through avenues like that, and now they're gone.
