Will I get called a playa hater if I remark that C-Man's posts are fucking annoying, and clogging up the board?

Well?

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

No you won't, but there is alas disagreement on how to handle the little fool. Not that I'm biased.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

If you're worried about clogging up the board, is starting a new thread about it really helping?

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

that did occur to me, but otherwise, well, we all know about the failure of the appeasement policy...

Ned, you are a coward who never even met me. You are just a sad little man hid behind a computer - I am some sort of monster in your eyes and as long as you can keep me that way why not eh? You could have come out for a pint to a nice wee VIP place in Sunset you acted like a knob. Now you must deal with the fact you know nowt about me outside of dumbass posts and you really, honestly do believe I'm EVIL.

AAHAHAHAAAAAAHA!

Knobass. My threads rock ILX and make it worth reading.

C-Man (C-Man), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"My threads rock ILX and make it worth reading. "

Perhaps none too surprisingly, you are the only person on ILX who expresses such an opinion.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 9 January 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Since when is C-Man a "playa"???????

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I vote to create a "C-Man weed-addled rambling thought" board for such missives.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

You are just a sad little man hid behind a computer

haha as opposed to

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought C-man's taking sides threads were ok. Obviously I'm not crazy about him, but I'm kind of used to him by now. *shrugs*

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

C-Man posts (via his platinum-coated Blackberry) from the champagne room of a hi-class strip club, surrounded by buxom ladies, drinking Alize

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

thought C-man's taking sides threads were ok. Obviously I'm not crazy about him, but I'm kind of used to him by now. *shrugs*

Yes, he is "part of the furniture" in the same sense as the water damage on my living room ceiling that I have yet to bother the landlord about.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Is C-Man saying he was in L.A? I would have FAP-ed simply out of curiousity, but there was never a notice or an invite (or even a challenge as per Ned, haha).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I went down for it but I couldn't get into The Mondrian for all of Calum's dreadlocked bodyguards.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

there is alas disagreement on how to handle the little fool.

I would suggest a separate board (I Love Calum, anyone?) on ILXOR that all his threads can be 'ported to. That seems reasonable to me - I'm obviously anti-censorship but a little justified segregation never hurt anyone.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost: Don't hate the player Adam - hate ILX.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer - email off board. We can arrange something...

C-Man (C-Man), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

are you really in L.A.? that's extraordinary. If you're serious, email me, I'll meet you for a drink.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

YGM. No spam please. I've already had Blount on that.

C-Man (C-Man), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

We've ALL had Blount. It's the ILX initiation.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i think c-man is very hard on Ned. c-man clearly enjoys acting like an idiot out of selfish boredom (surely you wouldn't deny this in all seriousness?) and repeatedly mistaking the definitions of 'offensive' for 'irritating' - and Ned's only 'crime' as with many other people here including myself is to protest about it because it can often be a real pain in the arse - like when the same fly keeps buzzing around your food, over and over again. threads ABOUT c-man are just as stupid i guess but what can you do? ignore altogether? apparently not. i know Ned or anybody else here hardly requires sticking up for, and I guess he's used to the abuse what with all the photoshopping (but that was friendly fun, as perhaps this is but very well disguised as nasty petty childish insults if so) but i can't help but question the absurdity of this whole business.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sure c-man is completely normal offline, and meeting him out of curiosity might be interesting briefly. but this doesn't excuse online behaviour really. can't speak for him but i figure if Ned had met you when the opportunity was there you would still feel the same about each other if you were both behaving in the same way as you are doing at the moment. maybe the meeting would have changed that. maybe c-man would've gone away realising what Ned is really like and resolving to not abuse the boards of which he remains such a patron out of respect. but i am sceptical.

stevem (blueski), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't get me wrong, I'll not be an apologist for anyone's board behavior, but I'll meet anyone for a drink - who knows maybe it would help the situation.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

No you won't, but there is alas disagreement on how to handle the little fool.
Yeah, some ask why not roll some canisters of CN-20 in to his empty head.
Some say we should just bug out and call it even.
I say we take off and nuke Calum's entire town from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Here's your chance to vote:

( ) Pump nerve gas into his skull.
( ) Set explosive charges throughout the forum set to implode the bulletin board and hopefully trap him forever inside a thread about Allison Moyet
( ) Orbital H-bomb saturation bombing.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The ironing is delicious.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Spence, trip him up so he falls face first into a puddle, the tit. Can we have a vote on what to do? I say, destroy all evidence of him and organise a mass-spamming and site set up specifically to mock his horrible horror writings. Failing that, yeah create the new board and put a disclaimer at the top: 'This Guy Sucks So Much We Had To Do This To Get Him Out Of Our Faces'.

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps we could leave him oustide as bait for the zombies?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The TERRORIST zombies.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Won't work. Zombie are only enticed by brains. They'd confuse him with a telephone pole.

Charles Aznavour, Friday, 9 January 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum's endless complaints about my not meeting him are somewhat belied by the fact that I never had an interest or desire to meet him in the first place.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

but what can you do? ignore altogether?

Uh, YES.

It's remarkable how many people who evidently can't stand the guy take his bait time after time. Calz has some of the most popular threads!

scott m (mcd), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

He would've covered you in flour Ned, or let off a stinkbomb or something similarly inane anyway.

Hmmm, Friday, 9 January 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm stuck in the unhappy position of contradicting my own
advice here, but - why don't we just ignore him? Every word
(much less thread) that he incites is a victory for him.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Does this thread remind anyone else of The Council of Elrond?

pete s, Friday, 9 January 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

ha

scott m (mcd), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

scott m otm, it's not all that hard to ignore him as he's not all that interesting. I don't know why people get so annoyed actually, yeah he's a cunt but it's sort of like your little sister resorting to increasingly desperate ways of annoying you. and it's only the internet, people are very easy to ignore here.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 9 January 2004 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

How likely is that?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe this total flashback to sometime last year is happening again, word for word.

Sam J. (samjeff), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

good lord, I just noticed that he started the Tori Amos POX thread, which as far as I'm concerned is using his, er, "powers" in the best possible way. I'd answer it but I can't narrow it down to ten :(

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 9 January 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Ned, but you're INTERESTED IN DISCUSSING ME you little child. Fecking grow up and say some of this shit to my face.

Create whatever board you want, I find it amusing you're wating your time talking about me.

C-Man (C-Man), Friday, 9 January 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

No be honest, you're beating your self into a frenzy over it, aren't you?

Hmmm, Friday, 9 January 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps Ned and Calum could do this on email rather than here?

First Past the Post System, Friday, 9 January 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Look: http://ilx.wh3rd.net/searchresults.php?board=2&mode=threads&q=&titlepart=&name=C-Man&email=&username=&dateafter=15%2F12%2F2003&datebefore=&catid=all

it doesn't look very repetitive to me. Are you saying that you're annoyed by the "creative" titles? I mean, they're obviously just an excuse to talk about one artist or another, which is what ILM is about. He hasn't been a serious troll since I started paying attention to him like a month ago. Actually what's really been annoying me for quite a while is people who start threads/long discussions about how much he sucks without any proof. Geir, and, especially, Aja (and even Burmakitty for that matter) are more annoying and suck about a thousand times more than Calum as he exists today. So can't we just fucking drop it and talk about music some more?

Dan I., Friday, 9 January 2004 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Go C-man! I love to see all you elitist pricks ringing your hands over this young and idiotic go-getter. Hey C-man, more threads about "birds" and "bums" and "Nicky Wire"!!! Fight the power!

() (nonthings), Friday, 9 January 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

That last post was either from Gordon Gecko or God.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I second, and third an I Love Calum Board. If little kids misbehave they are grounded.
I disagree. It would be fruitless. You're making the assumption that Calz|um would restrict himself to posting only to his own dedicated board. Theres no way of "forcing" (or even convincing) him to stick to posting only to his own board.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 9 January 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Geir, and, especially, Aja (and even Burmakitty for that matter) are more annoying and suck about a thousand times more than Calum as he exists today

yeah, nice argument there Dan I - you've been taking tips from c-man clearly

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, no, I'm just really perplexed and annoyed when a thread I'm enjoying will be derailed with reams of C-man hate after just one gently sarcastic comment from him that no-one would bat an eye at had it come from anyone else.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Well Custos i'm sure he wouldn't to begin with; but if he was deleted as soon as he tried to post on ILE/ILM he might figure, 'well i'll go where i can have SOME fun then'.
I know how draconian that sounds, but i'm of the opinion he's making ILX look more tan a bit foolish right now.
Yeah he's not the only one, but he's a persistent offender.

pete s, Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"more than a bit .."

pete s, Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

he's making ILX look more tan a bit foolish right now

i can imagine him saying 'well ILX doesn't need me for that to happen, a-ha, a-ha'

so Dan you enjoyed each and every one of the numerous threads about Nicky Wire or Holly Valance? in my opinion there's no real difference between Aja saying 'What?' or 'Huh?' 20 times on ONE thread and c-man starting 20 threads based on the same weak joke/opinion (they are weak because they go for cheap/easy targets e.g. large women in cliched ways or as opinions are seldom rationalised or backed up properly - most people do this from time to time but c-man does it every day). unlike Aja though, c-man seems quick to resort to mild abuse when encountering people who disagree with him or his methods. thus annoying as hell.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

also in your snapshot view of c-man threads started in the last 2/3 weeks, you negated that in many cases replicas of those threads had been started in abundance throughout last year by same poster. you can either be annoyed by that or not care, but i can't see how you cn condone such behaviour.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

to be fair, c-man has never put a 15 megabyte image link into a thread like aja did. wtf am i on about? I shd be in bed. cap cap to his motherfucking face is my solution right now haha. see all yuo l4ym0rz tomorrow maybe.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 10 January 2004 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i would concede there. no image spamming, very little hijacking of other threads to continue flame wars, generally good conduct - BUT for this incessant needless multiple thread starting and frequent descents into insults. this suggests to me that rather than your average troll (who would've got bored by now surely) there's a different game of sorts going on - a genuine urge to be recognised, talked about, vehemently and passionately lambasted and/or praised, a desperate and relentless plea for attention...but why here? and why in this way/for these reasons?

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Why, God? WHY?

sym (shmuel), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

yes very good

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

to be fair, c-man has never put a 15 megabyte image link into a thread like aja did.

Are you sure that was Aja? 'cause I think it was, um, me, actually. That is, if you're thinking of the thread where it specifically asked for HUGE pictures?

Dan I., Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't beleive I'm saying this but WTF? So what if he post annoying threads? They are clearly titled as a C-man post, and if you don't want to read them then don't READ THEM! It is usually not even his threads that are so awful as the post calling him a nazi, etc.
Ned, you are a great writer and an outstanding music scholar, but this is once that I think you and others are wrong. If you don't like South Park, then don't tune in. (allegory!) I think most of his threads are stupid, but most of my post are stupid. Hell, most people are stupid.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

no, it was in the middle of some totally non-image type thread. It was a moving picture of some students wandering around, completely w/o any connection to the thread title as far as I could see. it was aja who did it.

(yes I know, I "should be in bed", but i was reading emails and looking at pictures of daisy rock guitars insted, wtf.)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:19 (twenty-two years ago)

AND Aja was supremely annoying but we let that go didn't we? She was even encouraged.
Rodney King to thread!

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't recall many people encouraging aja actually.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

daisy rock guitars?!

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

plus, meta-threads like this one always get shitloads of posts, speedy.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, fuck, I'm buying a yellow daisy bass this year.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

*googles*

oh those! those are amazing. what do they play like? they're pretty cheap.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Not to start another disagreement, but Aja was always being cheered on. Maybe I saw it with a different eye 'cause her hijacking of threads irritated the piss out of me. Anyway...

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently really well. I'll try a few out first though. I want a small bass for gigging w/, and my shergold modulator is big, and fucked. Daisy Rock users include Suzanna Hoffs (I have SH sig model rickenbacker bought when I actually could afford stuff like this) Robt Smith and Ann Wilson = they rock!!!1

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm off to see the Wizard, so good luck settling this.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, her image spamming annoyed me a lot too, plus, I don't think this is a place for the very young. I mainly recall nyc alex getting annoyed w/her, but I probably missed stuff b/c I'm not into the foo fighters.

What? (sorry)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i saw them recently in a local music shop costing about £130-70 if my memories are correct. i dunno, the twee quotient is roofed but they're kinda pretty. report back when you play them'd be nice.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

which checking around the internet, and i think at most the shop had them stocked at 180 clams, is quite a low price for these guitars. but how come everywhere keeps calling them guitars fr gurls?

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

+ gurls are cool!¡!¡!¡!¡!

(if i'm going to buy a guitar like that, i better start practising saying twee stuff, i guess.)

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(oh i got mixed up betw. the short scale and normal scale models. bah. but still.)

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Wizzard are playing?

jazz odysseus, Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

They are clearly titled as a C-man post

I actually like Tico's idea of labelling the threads in their titles, actually. Quite a lot.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 January 2004 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

but that doesn't make sense - it's pretty obvious whose threads they are.

the 'if you don't like it don't read it' argument = reluctance to uphold certain standards and quality control (subjective i know) which sounds very pompous but isn't there something in this? you're saying that and then complaining about Aja also which smacks of double-standards almost.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the complaint is that creating a special vendetta for Calum and not extending it to others is cliquish persecution. My personal complaint is that we tried deleting all of Calum's posts as they came in and HE NEVER WENT AWAY.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 10 January 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I can tell you that someone IS going to - at this rate. The real problem with the "just ignore it" refrain, is that what you're really saying is to avoid it. Avoiding 'it' is a large part of why 'we' came here to begin with. In this case ignoring is equivalent to losing, so it's hardly any surprise that it's not the ideal or happy solution.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 10 January 2004 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

don't post to his threads. don't mention him.
i don't see why this is such a huge problem for some of you.
his missy elliot thread (title) made me laugh my ass off.
i honestly don't mind the guy because normally i ignore the majority of his crap¡
this is also coming from the guy that at one point was ready to drive down to san fran and choke a certain 11 year old. calum is alot easier to ignore i find.

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 10 January 2004 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Disclaimer: I am very drunk and easily irritated, and probably/definitely repeating things already said

a) Calum hasn't actually posted anything funny, ever. Fine. Okay. This is true of many. Yeah. But enough people on this thread have posted the whole 'EITHER DON'T POST ON HIS THREADS OR POST ON HIS THREADS AND ENJOY THEM; JUST DON'T POST ON THEM BITCHING ABOUT HOW SHIT THEY ARE' dilemma already (many of them doing the whole Anonymous Cleverer Than ILX thing; why?: You are common sense), so I forget what my point was.

b) This is entirely likely just Little Drunk Me complaining, but, as a fairly casual ILX-browser, I find it more irritating that so many people bitch about chucking a teenage girl out of the clubhouse for saying 'what' too much (when half of the responses to the thread in question are smugly taking the piss out of said teenage girl for not getting the thread in the first place) than some guy who's ACTUALLY BORED AND LONELY ENOUGH to troll ILX about what it would collectively do if it awoke to find that one tufty haired chick from Liberty X bumming their dog with a strap-on while humming the theme from the frigging Magnificent Seven slightly off key.

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Correction Dan, some of us deleted everypost that came in as we saw them. Others such as yourself only deleted the ones they saw fit to delete, fine I suppose. I got called onto the carpet enough times over that, I got insulted by you because of "things in my head".
To have you include yourself in an action you derailed and mocked me for is pretty damm astounding. Im glad my mouse finally kicked the bucket so I can practise your head in the sand solution to Calum.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the truth is that Calum has won and we should just go ahead and delete ILX.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

ignoring is fine in theory, but the kicker is that even people who keep saying that it's so easy to ignore stuff can't seem to ignore the people who say that it isn't.

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

nb 'you are doing the whole Anonymous Cleverer Than ILX Thing' may = 'I haven't read your post very carefully and I don't recognise you'; this is perhaps unfair

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Saturday, 10 January 2004 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

TURK 182!!

caps, Monday, 12 January 2004 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck off, Zack. You are a gigantic tool and just as irritating as Calum.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 January 2004 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

C-Man is really Neal Pollock, isn't he?

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Monday, 12 January 2004 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Who?

omg, Monday, 12 January 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i still love c-man for his phil collins tread a while back. it made me spit coffee on the desk at work and was a work of genius

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 12 January 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

was that deleted?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 January 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope not

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't find it by searching threads with Phil Collins in the title - was this the one about him gangbanging a load of groupies? i do recall something amusing in there somewhere but can't remember what or who was responsible
