i know we're not meant to care anymore and all but still.
it's between them and mad world apparantley.

piscesboy, Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

that's....bizarre/ridiculous/incredible. i'm sure it won't happen but if it does i will be absolutely delighted.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Michelle McManus was outselling "Mad World" by 3 to 1?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i might go and buy 500 copies of 'Good Luck' in a bit

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Were they not bobbling around number 13-ish in the midweeks? Is this the saturday-shopper effect?

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Did they do a guest hosting spot on The Saturday Show?

Dick and Dom: The Wilderness Years

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean the UK isn't going to hell in my absence?

Barima (Barima), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Note to self - get my sister to buy 'Good Luck' for me. What are the b-sides/remixes?

Barima (Barima), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

michelle's also in the running yeah but the story is pitched as if
jaxx are in with a major shout (over on the radio 1 news site).

stevem i take it u heard that the remix night a-z of djs
hi-lites show is on tomorrow night (from 6 ?).

piscesboy, Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Roni Size and Tim Deluxe on the remix

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

piscesboy - really? it's already been on tho hasn't it? i will be listening

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, I don't quite believe this.

I take it Kelis is not in the running though :(

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Kelis should be top 10 - there are Tv adverts for it and everything!

anyway i guess this proves that 'Good Luck' should've been the first single and released before the album, back in the Summer in fact. i still think 'lucky star' is a fantastic single and prefer it to 'plug it in' as a track by a huge amount tho.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yesterday I actually saw the videos to both "Milkshake" and "Good Luck" BACK-TO-BACK on The Box, it made me unbelievably happy for the rest of the day.

Will "Plug It In" be the third single? It'd make sense, what with the impending JC Chasez solo career and all.

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevem - good/bad/indifferent? I rate some of Tim Deluxe's stuff.

Also, I reckon they wanted to avoid the '1st album track as 1st single' that they did with 'Romeo', so as to be more daring. It didn't work, but that's people for you. Plus, an anthem like 'Good Luck' in early Jan is what this universe needs.

I hope 'You Used To' goes to no. 1 later this month.

Barima (Barima), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that news article just means that Basement Jaxx have released a single, actually. I'm hearing sales figures of around 120,000 for the Michelle single, which considering Will Young managed 385,000 in his debut week, is pretty rubbish.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

no i thought that too cause i missed last weeks what with all the
post new year 'what day is this' action, but the site says 'january 11th : remix night a-z highlights' or words to that effect.

the *hassle* i have plugging my tv into
into my tape recorder every week !
it's old skool but it works.

how do you hear/tape the show stevem ?
it's 3 hours from this week on isnt it ?

piscesboy, Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Lex - 'Plug It In' is apparently a US single round March. Wooo!

Barima (Barima), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Michelle has quite a lot on her plate at the moment - she has an album coming out and the finalist tour coming up. She also has an odd demand for her stage entrance.

"I have requested that I come flying in over the audience and a white unicorn to be landed on stage, with swans swimming to meet me. People may say that that's a bit 'Diva', but I don't actually think it's to much to ask for, do you? I think it would be quite entertaining."

a; veiled 'fat' reference in the first sentence, and
b; is she completely insane? Unicorns? Swans? wtf?!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we have a new chart hero.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 10 January 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

The best thing about the link upthread is the presence of the words 'Basement Jaxx to play Glastonbury'.

I am now officially excited.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 10 January 2004 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

wahey! It is closer to this year's Glastonbury than last year's glastonbury.

Although I must admit the presence of a big act like the Jaxx scares me into thinking they won't manage as great a dance bill as last year, in the sweaty scummy tent way.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 January 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a feeling this is probably also an Orbital year. That's the Other Stage sorted for most of the festival then.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 10 January 2004 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah then it really WILL be like Glasto 01, 2 or 3 brilliant shows and indie all day as opposed to last year's drug/dance/good dj fest. Hopefully they surprise me, last year was probably as perfect a lineup for me as I could have made myself.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 10 January 2004 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

already rumoured/confirmed : prince/macca/jaxx/strokes.

not a bad start i have to say.

piscesboy, Saturday, 10 January 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

As a jam session?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 January 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a dumb question: why is Mad World suddenly blowing up in the UK? Did Donnie Darko just get released there?

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 10 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

nah, Donnie Darko came out ages ago. I guess it was just bad luck.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 January 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe Osymyso is a celebrity now

nate detritus (natedetritus), Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

bnw the 'Mad World' cover was picked up by Radio 2 just a few months back for no apparent reason - it attracted much interest from the listenership prompting a single release. what i find curious is that it has not been disassociated from Donnie Darko in that Frank's visage is on the cover of the CD.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 11 January 2004 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't Alex Parks do "Mad World" on Fame Academy?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 11 January 2004 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't watch television

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 11 January 2004 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

why?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

it's rubbish. but that was a joke, of course i do - not much tho. this may change when Sky Plus arrives we'll see.

i bought 'Good Luck' yesterday but the remixes are not on the CD. i predict #8 for it now

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

They're #12.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Then the great British public should be beaten.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Kelis still to chart. I hope she tells Wes to fuck off if he tries to be funny with her.

Nick H (Nick H), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

They're on number 5 now and she still isn't there. Top 4 of Mad World, Ozzy'N'Kelly, Kelis and Michelle. C'mon Kelis.

Nick H (Nick H), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

She'll be #3 then, which is quite good going, even considering how quiet a week it is.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck, she is. For one brief moment, I thought she was going to do it.

Nick H (Nick H), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, it's her off Pop Idol. Annoyingly.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I meant "Fuck, she is number 3".

Nick H (Nick H), Sunday, 11 January 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

No 3 is better than I expected, and hopefully it'll be the kind of song which sticks around for a while - I'm not even sure what there is to stop it going to No 1 next week, I don't think "All This Time" can sustain itself for very long because it is so, so shit.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 11 January 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

*Pukes*

What is on your CD then, Ste-Man?

Barima (Barima), Monday, 12 January 2004 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

just one other track which i haven't heard yet called Mere Pass

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)
