If trees are sick and truly posing a risk, sure but besides that why do people hate trees so much? The shade and sense of space/atmosphere trees provide is in constant threat by neighbors that are just dying to destroy them as soon as they're noticed for any reason. It's like people need a big adult "homeowner" project all the time and if nothing else comes to mind they just default to arbitrary tree removal. I feel like I'm the only one that is extremely sensitive and to the visual framework/context/backdrop... when removed it just throws the whole composition of the property way off- you feel exposed and you actually notice the property lines more and it draws attention to its underwhelming dimensions and layout (unless the property is huge). Trees add dimension and change lighting, without them you have an amorphously shaped lot of dirt and grass being oppressed by inescapable sun.
Sorry, yes- our downstairs neighbors are getting rid of a tree just, you know, because. If it was up to people like them every yard would just be an empty square full of pebbles.

Thanks I appreciate that. We're sandwiched between 2 units that have the actual luxury of exclusive outdoor space, so literally all we have is the terrarium outside our windows. In close proximity apartment buildings it's pretty selfish to significantly change the context of the outdoor environment via your yard when everyone around you is affected by those decisions even though it's well within your rights to do what you want with trees on your property. Just hard to make that clear to people that view trees as nothing but physical burdens if they're anywhere but in the background.
