Pinche Pendejo (Pinche Pendejo), Sunday, 11 January 2004 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Wes Anderson to thread

sym (shmuel), Sunday, 11 January 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Ghost Dog: Way Of The Samurai

Nick H (Nick H), Sunday, 11 January 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Superfly

d_g, Sunday, 11 January 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"He Got Game" (The Aaron Copland soundtrack)
"Analyze That" (not great David Holmes, but the movie's so awful)
"Young Soul Rebels"
"Passion" ("The Last Temptation of Christ")

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 11 January 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"She's Having a Baby"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 11 January 2004 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"Passion" ("The Last Temptation of Christ")

I think this wins over all of them.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 11 January 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a big supporter of the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack, but the movie
bored me to tears.

stephen morris, Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The Last Temptation of Christ is a great film!

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I'll just have to see it again, I dunno. The thing that I remembered the most about it WAS the music, and considering the soundtrack didn't emerge until a year later, that says something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought that "The Last Temptation Of Christ" was a good film with great things about it. One of those great things is absolutely the music.

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 11 January 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Porky's Revenge!

Douglas (Douglas), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Empire Records

Joseph McCombs, Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Ennio Morricone to thread.

udu wudu (udu wudu), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

dead presidents. both volumes.

notfazed (notfazed), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Fight Club.

bohner (bohner), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Head.

Joseph McCombs, Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"Judgement Night". Utterly crap movie, but inspired (for its time) soundtrack, attempting to fuse hip hop and rock (to varrying degrees of success).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 11 January 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

As much as I love "Repo Man" as a film, its soundtrack is wholly superior. I probably think that because I got the soundtrack before I saw the film, and my expectations of what to expect from the film skyrocketed.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 11 January 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

>>Fight Club.

the dust brothers' studio floor sweepings vs. the film itself? er, no.

nf

notfazed (notfazed), Sunday, 11 January 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Singles will always be my favorite soundtrack-that's-better-than-the-movie pick. Although Ornette Coleman's soundtrack to Naked Lunch runs a close second.

Nick Mirov (nick), Sunday, 11 January 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

American Gigolo

Yoda Ono, Sunday, 11 January 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Rumble Fish

Jeremy (Jeremy), Sunday, 11 January 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The Andromeda Strain

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Sunday, 11 January 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Dirty Dancing.

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 11 January 2004 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Also "Lifespan" -- very obscure '70's sci-fi film with Klaus Kinski. Terry Riley does the soundtrack.

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Sunday, 11 January 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Every Blaxploitation film ever.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Sunday, 11 January 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: O Brother Where Art Thou film vs. soundtrack?

sym (shmuel), Sunday, 11 January 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I second Fight Club.

David Allen (David Allen), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Finding Forrester

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

pretty in pink SO owns this thread.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Doom Generation big time and, any Farrelly brothers movie.

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Ghost Dog ain't exactly a 'bad film' either...

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ghost Dog, Fight Club, and Wes Anderson movies are all great (as great as the music)

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite like "Ghost Dog".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

doom generation was so bad, that even if its soundtrack had nothing but ryan adams and sigur ros singing tiny tim and engelbert humperdinck songs it would've been 100x better than the film itself.

the actual soundtrack was pretty good.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely they must've meant "Ghost Dad".

may pang (maypang), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

JUDGEMENT NIGHT!!!!

The film's actually pretty good, too.

How about Pi? TERRIBLE terrible terrible film, but the soundtrack was only bad!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Shock Treatment

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 11 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I Shot Andy Warhol
Kids

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Sunday, 11 January 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Grease.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Sunday, 11 January 2004 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"Jack Johnson"

dylan (dylan), Monday, 12 January 2004 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't care what anyone says: "Magical Mystery Tour" is an outstanding film. Well actually, now that I'm looking at the question, I suppose it would fit, as the 6 or 7 song soundtrack is indeed superior to the film itself.

billstevejim, Monday, 12 January 2004 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Last Action Hero (great exclusive tracks by AC/DC, Megadeth and Alice In Chains).

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 12 January 2004 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I gotta shit on Greg Araki and say all his s/t are better than his films. I did kinda dig "Nowhere"

Hayden (Hayden), Monday, 12 January 2004 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"Thank God It's Friday" - Not in its entirety, but at least three of the five (yes, FIVE!) sides of the vinyl are pretty good. Gawdawful movie, of course, no matter what your opinion on disco music.

Also "Purple Rain" (if it's actually considered a soundtrack), Sun Ra's "Space is the Place" and the horrific "Forrest Gump."

Scott Bloomfield, Monday, 12 January 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread is made for 'pulp fiction', surely?

especially if all the irritating talky bits (errr...otherwise known as 'dialogue' i suppose) can be taken out.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Shaft

Bruno- (Bruno-), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

How about every 90s crap Eddie Murphy film with a pretty great hip hop/r'n'b soundtrack, such as The Nutty Professor part 1 and 2.

Easily win.

Alex in LA, Monday, 12 January 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the "Nutty Professor" soundtrack with "Are You That Somebody" has to be better than the movie, though I can't really support this, having not seen the picture.

dylan (dylan), Monday, 12 January 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Rosemary's baby. And that was a hell (no joke intended) of a film.

Felcher (Felcher), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't even remember any music in "Rosemary's Baby".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Any movie with a Vangelis soundtrack except Bladerunner, which is a tie.

fortunate hazel (f. hazel), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"Friday", if only for "Keep Their Heads Ringin'"

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Nadia.

dlp9001, Monday, 12 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Lost In Translation

The soundtrack has a few good songs.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

oh there, was. and it was chilling. the score was done by Krzysztof Komeda.

Felcher (Felcher), Monday, 12 January 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Lost In Translation

The soundtrack has a few good songs.

And the film wasn't very good.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 12 January 2004 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

thank you Capt. Subtlety.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 12 January 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The Waking Life soundtrack, devoid of ramble, chock full of tango magic.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 12 January 2004 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

gummo

sean marvin (williamtell), Monday, 12 January 2004 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Jackal". I win.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 January 2004 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll definitely second the Nowhere soundtrack. i found it in a used shop long before i ever saw the movie, and in fact only decided to sit through the movie based on how great the soundtrack was. well, that and the fact that i actually quite like The Doom Generation. the unrated version is a bit more satisfying than the theatrical release, however---and i've got the laserdisc to prove it. ;)

Nowhere, however, is an incredible waste of time. although it's not Slacker, The Minus Man, or Battlefield Earth, which means it can never be classed as The Worst Thing Ever.

also, i greatly enjoy Ghost Dog. and the score (the proper one, not the "music inspired by" put out in the US) as well, despite how short it is.

janni (janni), Monday, 12 January 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Nearly every Elvis movie ever
(I imagine) several late '60s/early '70s Hippie exploitation films

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Monday, 12 January 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00009VTY1.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Monday, 12 January 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Whilst the movie has some interesting aspects, it's pretty mediocre overall, so "Until the End of the World" is what I'm going for. Actually, "Faraway So Close" as well. Maybe all '90s Wenders films?

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 12 January 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Gummo is the best movie/soundtrack combination ever.

billstevejim, Monday, 12 January 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The Big Chill
Gear is OTM on Wenders movies. And Friday was a great movie, so whoever nominated it is WRONG.

sym (shmuel), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I second, third, forth, fifth,...... NINETY FUCKING NINTH "Until The End Of The World".

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

desperate teenage lovedolls

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

OTM on Wenders, 'End of Violence' being a good example. T'he Crow' rules this thread though

Baaderist (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

virgin suicides

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Some Heather Graham movie...Committed...original score by Calexico. Didn't see movie, but I don't reckon it's much good.

Luigi Vampa (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Requiem for a Dream

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Risky Business
New Jersey Drive
Hackers

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Pootie Tang could have had AS GOOD an OST as the movie, but the dropped the ball.

Luigi Vampa (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm surprised vanilla sky hasnt been mentioned yet.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Requiem for a Dream

-- Tuomas (tuomas.alh...), January 13th, 2004.

YES!

David Allen (David Allen), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Amelie, and i havent seen but i'd guess Explosions in the sky would make Friday Night Lights sound better than Billy Bob Thornton and American Football.

dmun, Sunday, 27 February 2005 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

yet the movie is very good.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 27 February 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Magnolia (ducks)
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
Visionquest
Less Than Zero
Anatomy of a Murder
any James Bond
Superfly

but The Mack is a great movie (and soundtrack)!

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Sunday, 27 February 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry I missed Superfly above. And I never saw Visionquest, actually.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Sunday, 27 February 2005 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Salvation! (Japanese/German editions) wins by a mile. Even though 60% of the soundrack sucks, it still beats the movie that manages to suck 100%. That's 40% less sucky!

all by New Order:
Let's Go
Sputnik
Theme
Touched by the Hand of God + Touched Remix
Skullcrusher

biznotic, Sunday, 27 February 2005 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

CQ (The Europop soundtrack, not the Outsiders album)

Ken L (Ken L), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite liked CQ.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the movie wasn't actually that bad. It did have the reputation of having gone through some serious after-the-fact editing but when your daddy's a famous director, people may take potshots at you.

Ken L (Ken L), Monday, 28 February 2005 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)
