the thing, he is often best when he is a guest artist, re: mos def, lil jon, atcq, etc.

something abt. small doses, i guess...

money, exposure, connections.

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Monday, 12 January 2004 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

he is really well-connected, and, well, it's easy. He gets paid well for a guest verse that usually has little to do with the subject of the song. He does his Bus-a-bus schtick, and people love it. A bit like Method Man (another guest whore) doing an m-e-t-h-o-d bit, or getting Missy (another remix whore) to make some funny noises or say something about fat shoelaces or big butts.

Hmm, there's an idea. Current top remix whores (no order):

Busta Rhymes
Method Man
Missy Elliot
Fabolous
Jay-Z
Sean Paul
Ludacris
Fat Joe

Remix MC rarities? Nas, GZA, Pharoahe Monch, Big Gipp...ok, i'm stretching.

Rakim was rarely, if ever, a guest star back in the day....of course, now he's done Truth Hurts and the Alicia Keys deal, but still there aren't many Rakim remix or collobaration appearances out there....I think it added to his "mystique", back when he still had one.

The thing with Meth though is each of his verses he does on other peoples' songs are done in a slightly different style - the yell-barking on that track with Prodigy, the smoked-out mellow-mang shit on the Redman colabs, etc. Whereas Busta does his thing and then does the track of himself going "mmhmm" and "aha" and "ooh" in the background and collects his dollars.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

getting paid to say "aha yeah" on somebody else's record = classic.

meth and red hardly count as "guest appearances" though so much as a TEAM?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

well yeah true.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

...... err, because he once claimed to have his ass on fire! There's gotta be a call for more remixes after that, surely?

herbalizer12 (herbalizer12), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Luda's guest spots >>>>>>> primary mc's verse. Almost everytime.

Will (will), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

This is because Luda >>>>>>>>>>>>> most contemporary MCs.

three years pass...

Mark Ronson ft Lily Allen and Busta Rhymes covering the Kaiser Chiefs: is this the nadir of western culture to date?

Dom Passantino, Friday, 21 December 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

tremendoid, Friday, 21 December 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)
