Liam admitting he didn't like "Baby's Got A Temper" is a good start.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently Noreaga might be on one of the tracks. And there's another Kool Keith collab.

nate detritus (natedetritus), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

they went downhill pretty fast after "experience"

searchanddelete, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

jeez.. he constantly refer to the Fat of The land as being "old skool" prodigy. like "experience2 never happened.

"bringing it back to the street"? you're from Essex, mate.

searchanddelete, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree, if by "went downhill" you mean "utilized a method of increasing velocity and g-force". (I mean, c'mon, Music For the Jilted Generation!)

nate detritus (natedetritus), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Charley was their best record.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

MFTJG had it's moments. but they sorta lost the sense of combining power and energy and "punk" spirit with the FUN and playfulness, that made them so great in the beginning

and charley was their best record

searchanddelete, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I ran into the "firestarter" himself at a place called Koi in L.A. - he looked EXACTLY the same as in the videos - same hair, shorts, eyeliner - everything. It was hilarious.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

this was a couple months ago, btw.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

plus.. "experience" had the funniest artwork ever

searchanddelete, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't seen that one seachanddelete, but have you seen the inside artwork of 'Jilted Generation'? That's good for a chuckle.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I always thought the crusty/raver guy with the sword was rescuing the wrong people.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

thats the one with the bridge on it, yeah? that is pretty funny. check out the experience inside artwork though.. i don't think they were being ironic....

searchanddelete, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I find it on the web?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

just trying to get it..

searchanddelete, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's the Jilted Gen inside artwork (you'll need to turn your head sideways). Dig the beard on that hippy, man:

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Can anyone explain the symbolism to me? It's a bit subtle.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Cheating is bad. Richard Basehart is good.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Prepare to meet KALI!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

bah. can't find a pic and don't have a scanner.

searchanddelete, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

IN HELL! (sorry I forgot that part. . . let's start again. . . okay?)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it says, 'F*** you Mr Straighty with your suit and tie and your repressive rules, we are the new children of the future free world and we're going to start a NEW SOCIETY in the sunshine of peace, love and dancing.' I could be wrong though.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The chasm or canyon is clearly a Freudian reference to the vagina. The first experience with intercourse mediates our long-haired protagonist's life into two realities: that of the pre-sexual authoritarian male hierarchy of the playground, and the polyamorousness of the late teens and early twenties. By cutting the rope bridge, which symbolizes his girlfriend's pubic hair, he is firmly establishing himself as an adult of his tribe and turning his back on childhood.

Liam Howlett's insights into teenage development were very subtle, but it's not like his records were meant for people without at least a master's degree.

Mediawhore, Tuesday, 13 January 2004 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

So when he gives the policeman the finger, is that an oedipal thing?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

He's saying, 'f*** the rules, dad, cos I'm moving in with mum into a pre-oedipal Edenic fantasy world ruled over by mother earth and resounding with the heartbeat of the womb that is the pulse of today's house music.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

this is pretty encouraging stuff and i look forward to hearing Brand New Howlett Beats this Summer

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it too soon to start speculating about the CD inlay art though?

This seems like more fertile ground than the music. Will they better the Criminal Justice Bill-baiting of '...jilted'?

It's so good to have its subtle nuances laid out for me at last.

M Carty (mj_c), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone care to speculate on what the "pretty big sample" is? Oh, fuck it, we all know its Planet Rock.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm quite prepared to hear a new Prodge album. Didn't think much of "Baby's Got a Temper", though Flint's solo track, "Asteroid" wasn't too bad (in my opinion, of course). That there was a Killing Joke connection (Yoof) has nothing to do with this, I assure you.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Not splelt like that, he hasn't!

herbalizer12 (herbalizer12), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"your love" was the best prodigy record

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The Experience was great, but pretty one-sided ("Charly" is their best track, however). Music for the Jilted Generation, was great from the start to beginning (well, maybe not counting "Their Law"). The discord between that hippie image and the paranoid, claustrophobic music on the record is noteworthy. Fat of the Land, however, was a huge mistake. The guys suddenly started to think they were rock stars, and the tracks were mostly boring - who the fuck wants to hear that Kula Shaker dude sing on a Prodigy record? ("Smack My Bitch Up" was a great single, anyhow.) After that flop it'll take quite much for me to get interested in The Prodigy again. If Keith Flint is still the "lead singer" on the new LP, I won't probably buy it.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

"Charly" is NOT their best track. Possible contenders would be:

"Your Love"
"Everybody In The Place"
"Break And Enter"
"Rhythm Of Life"
"One Love"
"Diesel Power"
"G-Force"
"Music Reach (1, 2, 3, 4)"
"Crazy Man"
"Android"
"Ghost Town"
"Pandemonioum"
"Claustrophobic Sting"
"Poison"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm i don't think you can really top that lovely bendy Charly bassline. see also Technotronik - Uptempo.

searchanddelete, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm quite prepared to hear a new Prodge album.

As much as I am prepared to head back to the dentist. They're as Punk as... hmmm lemme think. No, sorry, not wasting time on them. Granted, I liked Fat of the Land but then it went oh so horribly wrong.

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

No Good (Start The Dance) for me. I must pick up a copy of Experience on proper CD. I will not be rushing out to get this one, even if there is a killer single. I suspect many others might follow suit.

It'd do well if they released it before christmas, they're exactly the sort of band that a 0-CD person would buy as a present for little Jimmy (age 35).

Are you living backwards through time, nathalie? In which case, never mind the Prodigy, does Elvis Costello ever release another decent album?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

They're as Punk as...

Who cares? They're as Punk as fuckin' Supertramp, but that was never the appeal for me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i maintain the first two albums were more punk than Fat Of The Land

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

agreed. after MFTJG they became every metallers token dance band.

searchanddelete, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Fat of the Land always reminded me of Electric by the Cult. Big, flashy, stoopid, decidedly uncerebral....but still loads of mindless fun. Closer to the hollow-but-hedonistic aesthetic of Kiss than to Punk Rock.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

The guy and the middle finger is a response to a Law passed by the government in the UK to stop any loud parties/club events. The Prodigy had a couple PA's shut down to this law. Hence the song on the album, "Their Law" which says "Fuck em, and their law" was dedicated to that whole situation, as well as the single "One Love" had a note from Liam telling the people not to put up with that BS

jamesbrown, Saturday, 17 January 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for clearing that up. What's "God Save the Queen" about?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 17 January 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

it's about not being able to drink in pubs despite being able to have sexual intercourse with a partner of your choice

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Cause that's what this program's about. SHOCK.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned out in August

I do not have the slightest expectation that this will be any cop whatsoever. Liam Gallagher!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The band died Dido's hair brown and called her Juliette Lewis, just to see who noticed, didn't they?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

TWISTA!!!

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

conflicting info regarding use of vocalists and Liam's apparent desire to 'take it back to the street, underground, in my mind" or whatever he said. i wouldn't be surprised if Liam and Twista didn't make the final cut (as Skin of Skunk Anansie didn't for the last album)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Howlett probably kicking himself for not coming up with the idea of 'Cish Cash' too i reckon

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

LET US REASSEMBLE THE 90S, MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHA

http://www.theprodigy.com/doors.html

StanM, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:09 (eighteen years ago)

OK. So the news is that there's no news about the album yet (they're going to announce the title in a month or so) and they're going to be on their own label from now on. The label is called "Take Me To The Hospital"

StanM, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

i couldn't give a toss anymore, ah well
