Just curious - hometown? Did the lineup stay the same? Who are the two guitar players? Any classic lore?

'The Boys are Back in Town' was not written for Toy Story.

Phil Lynnot was a black Irishman.

'Whisky in the Jar' is a traditional standard.

Jailbreak is their bestselling album.

err...

that's it

Also "Bad Reputation" is possibly the best song with that title (though some say Joan Jett and I ain't gonna argue)

"Johnny the Fox" = one of the top ten breaks of all time baby

Second gig I ever went to was them. They, you know, rocked and stuff.

"Live And Dangerous" is the album to get.

I'm partial to the Eric Bell era. Although all of it is pretty rad. Except when they hooked up with the dude from Whitesnake.

"jailbreak" and "the boys are back in town" are 2 of only about 4 or 5 classic rock songs i absolutely, reflexively-changing-stations, hate (for context, here's another: "paradise by the dashboard lights"). but at the same time i looooove "cowboy song". i've never been able to reconcile these two impulses satisfactorily.

This should keep you busy for a while -- dozens of links to hundreds of pages:

In fact, I anticipate the hands whirring around the clock face while I poke around over here. Just found "How to visit Phil Lynott's grave" -- coupla thousand dime bags and an ocean of gin, right?

Amazing chameleon-like band whose combo of black leather and feather earrings brings together Judas Priest and Steely Dan fans. Plus Yo La Tengo fans, though "Little Girl in Bloom" blows away Yo La Tengo.

There's a DVD making the rounds of Thin Lizzy in Australia circa 1977, rocking it in the open air at the end of the afternoon. The leather bikinis and bottles of wine are in effect, and a cluster of boats are gathered in the harbor to see and hear the show. It's fukking amazing, and Gary Moore still looks ready for spitting and punching.

Lynott's absentee father was Brazilian, by the way, in case you're ever playing Trivial Pursuit in Rio and it comes up.
