Either on record, or live, for me, they're not in the same galaxy.
PFunk by light years!

How about making it a more even contest: Pfunk vs. Sun Ra. Still Pfunk...but a lot closer.

A co-worker just today lent me two SunRa DVDs to check out!
Ain't that a plate of shrimp!

I love Parliament/Funkadelic and Sun Ra (even saw the Arkestra w/Sun Ra before his death as well as the P-Funk Allstars), but I'm gonna vote for ELO.

I'm not much of a Parliament fan at all (I like the Westbound Funkadelic albums, and that's about it, and I don't even like Tales Of Kidd Funkadelic very much), but this isn't even a contest. Split it up: P-Funk vs. Sun Ra, and ELO vs. Journey.

Hawkwind and Gong should get a piece of this action as well.

I only like P-Funk when they are being sampled by rappers...they are too boring in original form....I guess I vote ELO.

I'm a proud funkateer (listening to Sharon Jones right this sec) but one of my biggest blind spots in the genre is P-Funk, it just leaves me cold. I don't think my freaky-deaky meter goes that high.

Plus, the first concert I ever went to was ELO with the giant spaceship so I have to with them.

You two are suffering from the Placebo Syndrome.

Broheems (diamond), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

PFunk more boring than ELO????

Obviously, you've haven't seen both of them live!
That ELO show almost turned me off of music forever.
Embarassingly dull.
PFunk on the hottest night of the year in Detroit with a packed house was a 3 hour fest of funken fabulousity!

The ELO spaceship ends up docked at Xanadu, so they lose to pretty much anybody else with an interstellar overdrive (Sun Ra, P-Funk, Hawkwind, etc.).

Altho I do really like the "Out of the Blue" LP.

Jefferson Spaceship!

Nah, gotta go with P-Funk. (Greatest American band to make it into & out of the 70s intact.) ELO's ship looked too much like one of those insufferable "Simon" electronic games. (More '70s nostalgia)

Scott (who really truly actually shook Sun Ra's hand once), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

What about Von Lmo?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely PFunk. ELO makes me want me to splatter the back of my head all over a wall with a single shotgun blast.
