I only have enough money for one, but need to relieve some mid-Tuesday, mid-winter boredom. I know they're not exactly new, but....which one?

Get DFA presents.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

RAPTURE

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(haha well, there's that sorted)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll take a couple great LCD system and Black Dice songs over a rapture album any day. but that's just me. plus, with DFA presents, you can get a taste of the rapture and see if you want to get echoes in the future.

i am just going to take this moment to point out how severely lacking DFA Presents... is for not including "beat connection". i was also disappointed at the lack of DFA remixes (emerge? orange alert?) but i guess i can understand that they wouldn't want to pay licensing fees. i suppose a "dfa remixes" disc will eventually happen anyway...

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"give me every little thing" >>>> "beat connection"

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah>>>>Beat Connection>>>>Give Me Every Little Thing

Tough equation tho'.

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Felcher, really off topic, but when did Black Dice get their act together? I saw them last winter with Lightning Bolt and Sonic Youth and they were sooo boring.

thanks people. i got The Rapture, and like it a lot. Had heard Olio, HOJL etc, but it's really strong as an album. How did I choose? Er, they didn't have the DFA in stock.

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

why do DFA deserve presents? is it their birthdays?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all about "You Can't Have It Both Ways"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all about "My Time Is Running Out".

Get the Muzik disco-punk cd mixed by DFA if you can find it.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, DFA presents is worth it just for You Can't Have it Both Ways, which I can so imagine being played at EBM club nights. The Black Dice tracks are a waste of space though.

I got The Rapture's album through from Amazon today. I'd heard my brother's copy a couple of time so I pretty much knew what to expect, and it's fantastic. Much, much better than the Out Of The Races... EP which was, apart from the title track, largely unlistenable. The DFA obviously have a lot to do with the transformation but they are pretty damn good live too. Class band.

Chris Jones (Crackity Jones), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone else noticed that there's three versions of "Olio" now? The live version is like some weird combination of the DFA-ified Echoes one, the Mirror one (although not so much), and sex with a drum machine.

That said, I've been listening to Tribulations by LCD a lot. It's one of the more straightforward songs, but I still like it a lot.

It's all about "My Time Is Running Out"

haha, but I thought we were limiting our choices to DFA Presents traxx.
