They are both bad enough that if I were in a shop, and their rekkids came on, I'd leave (which I did when I was in HMV thee other week and "Ebeneezer Goode" came on. My god it actually gets worse with age!)

Ebeneezer Goode roxor! It's so horribly cheesy, yet so so catchy.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Nicole OTM. If you want horrifying Shamen tunes, look no further than "Phorever People".

(stevem is more OTM, though.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the shamen were k-rub, sorry. We had them in the record shop just before their mercifully brief fame, one of them bought a copy of "Blackouts" by Ash Ra Tempel to mix at their gig (which was why they were in Ncle) they were so er haha 'up on one' that they were literally twitching as they spoke to us. One of them (I think it was the one who died, but this was a long long time ago) was drumming his fngers on the counter, and the rythm he made was disturbingly sketchy & all-over-the-place. I played w/a band whose singer had a 6-month trip, and he was actually more coherent! They were pretty obnoxious too, and arrogant, which is ironic considering how DUMB their lyrics were.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

bah, got me questioning where is the plur

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Pash, have you ever heard "You and Me and Everything"?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

And the Ebeneezer Goode lyrics are genius!

A great philosopher once wrote
Naughty, naughty, very naughty
Ha ha ha ha ha

There's a guy in the place
He's got a bittersweet face
And he goes by the name of Ebeneezer Goode
His friends call him Eezer and he is the main geezer
And he'll vibe about the place like no other man could
He's refined, he's sublime, he makes you feel fine
Though very much maligned and misunderstood
But if you know Eezer he's a real crowd pleaser
He's ever so good, he's Ebeneezer Goode
You can see that he's mischievious, mysterious and devious
When he circulates amongst the people in the place
But once you know he's fun and something of a genius
He gives a grin that goes around from face to face to face
Backwards and then forwards, forwards and then backwards
Eezer is the geezer who loves to muscle in
That's about the time the crowd all shout the name of Eezer
As he's kotcheled in the corner, laughing by the bass bin

Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode

Has anybody got any veras
Lovely
Ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha

A great philosopher once wrote
Naughty, naughty, very naughty
Ha ha ha ha ha

Ebeneezer Goode, leading light of the scene
Know what I mean, see
He created the vibe
He takes you for a ride and as if by design
The party ignites like he's comin alive
He takes you to the top, shakes you all around
Then back down, you know as he gets mellow
Then as smooth as the groove that is making you move
He glides into your mind with a sunny Hello
A gentleman of leisure, he's there for your pleasure
But go easy on old Eezer he's the love you could lose
Extraordinary fellow, like Mr. Punchinello
He's the kind of geezer who must never be abused
When you're in town and Ebeneezer is around
You can sense a presence in the sound of the crowd
He gets them all at it, the party starts rocking
The people get excited it's time to shout loud

Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode

He's Ebeneezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode

Got any salmon Sorted
Ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
Oh what a carry on, ha ha ha ha ha
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
Wicked
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode

He's Ebeneezer Goode
Oh what a carry on, ha ha ha ha ha
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
Wicked
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
He's Ebeneezer Goode
Eezer Goode, Eezer Goode

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Those lyrics are terrible!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

But in the best possible way.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

What did you expect Pashmina? A lament about the abandoned swamps of the Everglades?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Pash, you never answered my "You And Me And Everything" question.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

He's the kind of geezer who must never be abused

I wonder why the tabloids never mentioned that?

Ben Dot (1977), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

What did you expect Pashmina? A lament about the abandoned swamps of the Everglades?

Haha, given the way they were always banging on about more evolved they were etc etc smart drinks bla h blay, YES!!! And a good lament as well!!

Dan, no I haven't heard that one, sorry.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

DUDE, IT'S SERIOUSLY THE BEST SINGLE THEY EVER PUT OUT!!!!!!! It's the pinnacle of pre-_En-Tact_ Shamen!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

For you, Dan, I will search out a copy.

(rubbish tiresome elitist I-was-a-record-collector bilge abt how none of it was as good as "christopher mayhew says" anyway stuff I wrote deleted b/c of sudden realisation that CMS was a bit rub as well, really)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"kotcheled"?

heywood jablomi (heywood), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

All of a sudden the butt end of 1992 displayed itself to me. Except for some reason I had a Shamen poster up for a while around that time?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i've re-discovered 'Hyperreal' - gah they were quite a bit better before C turned up eh?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"better"

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I sense the wrath of the Dan.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 January 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but C was with them when "Hyperreal" came out! He just wasn't on that song!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 15 January 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i know, but did he do ANY vocals before 'Move Any Mountain'?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 15 January 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

That doesn't mean he wasn't contributing! People used to think Keith Flint was just a pretty boy...

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 15 January 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Basically, if "Pro-Gen" hadn't been a gigantic massive fuck-off hit, Mr C. wouldn't have become such an integral part of the band. (Imagine if "Make It Mine" had been their massive breakthrough hit and you had to deal with Rhyme And Reason on "Ebeneezer Goode" and "Boss Drum"...)
