Compulsive Gamblers - "Crystal Gazing Luck Amazing" (those Oblivian boys can do no wrong!)
Kylie Minogue - "Impossible Princess" (found it used for 7 bucks, had to have it, it's really pretty damn good)
Fiery Furnaces - "Gallowsbird's Bark" (good gawd, this is astonishing....I can't wait til they come to L.A. again)
Make Up - "Save Yourself" (stolen from me on CD years ago, found it used on LP....their best one IMO)
Flaming Lips - "Ego Tripping At the Gates of Hell" (had to have the remix of "Do You Realize?" which is like the Postal Service without the DCFC ponce on vocals)
Band of Blacky Ranchette - s/t (I haven't listened to this yet, but I fear I'm turning into a Howe Gelb completist....only 415 albums left to find, I guess)
the Wrens - "Meadowlands" (I like this a lot, but I'm not sure it's quite as good as I'd heard....I'll listen to it more, though)
Playgroup - "DJ Kicks" (the DJ Kicks series is usually pretty high quality, this one is beyond high quality....really excellent selections here)
Handsome Family - "Singing Bones" (another great one from the Sparks.....continuing their run as one of the best, if not the best, groups in the U.S.)
Willie Nelson - "Phases and Stages" (this is immediately my favorite Willie Nelson album)

I bought these a couple weeks ago at the Princeton Record Exchange:

City Boy - Young Men Gone West (standard-issue '70s glam-rock)

SKY - s/t (aka SKY II in Europe) (1980 fusion-prog LP that I bought for two bucks because the cover looked like Yes gone new-age)

The 5th Dimension - 5th Dimension/Live!

v/a - Bob Booker & George Foster Present THE JEWISH AMERICAN PRINCESS (1971 comedy album featuring a young Beatrice Arthur)

Smithereens - Blown to Smithereens: Best of the Smithereens (bought used cuz we didn't have any CDs with us and we wanted to listen to something appropriately "Jersey" on the drive from Princeton to Wildwood)

Oh yes, and the 1970 album by Hoover, who the Fuzz, Acid & Flowers site refers to simply as "A good loner folk singer." That's exactly what the cover looks like, too.

I've find The Stills pretty dull. One of the weakest of the 80s revival crowd, many of whom I love (Interpol, Stellastarr*, The Rapture, Hot Hot Heat).

Chris Jones (Crackity Jones), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The Stills are a dud. Boring as hell. I thought Vice was supposed to be "edgy"? Bah.
