What would it take for you to go to an outdoor festival and hangout with drunken/smelly/sleepless rock fans for two days?

I'm not one for outdoor concerts, mainly since all but one I've been to have been terrible (bad sound, people who aren't into the band you travelled hours to see begging other people to notice them, wading in puke, hours of boredom waiting for the shit bands to finish their sets, etc). What bands would have to appear for you to be interested enough to travel across the continent to see in such an environment?

*note* not including defunct groups getting back together

It woudl have to be in a stupidly beautiful place, warm and sunny and with a beach, like a tropical island, and the sanitation/accomadation would have to be decent, and teh following would have to play;

Mouse On Mars
Plaid
Fugazi
Sugababes
Manitoba
Lambchop

And I'd have to get in free on a press pass.

The lineup for the field day fest was enough to rope me in, but then it didn't happen.

Bands included the roots, streets, radiohead, spiritualized, sigur ros, blur, elliott smith, beck, blackalicious, and qutie a few others.

Well, if it was near my humble abode!!!! (ie the first couple of year of T in in the Park when it was still in Hamilton!) Or had better places to sleep than in a flipping tent!!!!!! (Alright for a jaunt in Tha Trossachs, but quite another thing for a Rock Pilgrimage!!!) That All Tommorows Parties in tha Butlitz holiday camp sounds a good venue, if they have a decent enough curator to put on bands!!!!! (I was immeasurably peed off when I couldn't afford to go the year Aphex Twin did it!!!!!!!!)

I love festivals. That's all I have to say on the matter.

cash money.
I went to several festivals last summer for no other reason. wound up getting wicked drunk on jello shooters just before Cheap Trick and nearly got kicked out for hopping the fence despite having a media pass.

I used to love festivals when I was younger.

The appeal of getting so pissed that I don't care that it's pissing with rain and I'm sleeping in the same filthy, soaking-wet clothes for three nights in a row; then beginning each day by cleaning my teeth in lager as a prelude to starting the process all over again; has paled somewhat over the years.

I guess I've been spoiled by having Reading Festival less than 5 miles from where I live too (this means I can go the Festival during the day but go home at night and sleep in a real bed and have a crap in a proper flushing toilet with real toilet paper!).

So at this point in my life.... well I guess if Don Van Vliet was coming out of retirement; or maybe Tom Waits / David Thomas was announcing his retirement; and only playing one gig in Europe and it was at a Festival....

I'd still try to book a hotel room nearby 'though.
