aka "the forgetten third single from _Word Up!".

I wil grant that it isn't as catchy as "Word Up!" or as insanely groovelicious as "Candy", but surely this song deserves it's slicy of funky praise?

This got played A WHOLE LOT in Detroit. It's one of my favorite Cameo songs, which is saying A WHOLE LOT.

always makes me think of Q Tip saying "back and forth like a Cameo song"

I surely must have this song. *checks*

...and I do. I will play it after this cleansing blast of Motorhead finishes.

I love the synthhandclaps right before the vocals. Mm. You know, this song is almost like some weird mirror image of the Human League's "Keep Feeling Fascination," the way the vocals are working.

Well, it did get a nod in Outkast's "The Whole World" ...

six years pass...

I love how the super-loud "COOH" drum sounds come in intermittently to remind you that this is 1986 and not 1980.

also a nod in wu-tang's "gravel pit"

possibly controversial funk opinion - cameosis is the best cameo album

I am looking at their discography and wondering why I didn't grab all of those albums while they were all still in print

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 13:41 (fifteen years ago)

i know, right? they have so many records i haven't heard just from '79 - '82, there have to be some gems in there.

somewhere in my brother's old stack of vinyl is a copy of Alligator Woman that I have been coveting for 20 years, but it is buried somewhere in either my parents' basement or a storage unit

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 13:49 (fifteen years ago)

i think most of these are pretty cheap/attainable on used vinyl, right?

adult music person (Jordan), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 13:56 (fifteen years ago)

hmm probably

though I'm not sure my turntable still works, lol

That video is incredible... Uh Miles Davis is in it, going "What the fuck is this, motherfuckers, now pay me so I can get some blow."

'Knights Of The Soundtable' is pretty good as I remember...Larry Blackmon is up there with Maurice White in my estimations as an arranger and producer...the sound of those records are still astonishing...esp ' Word Up' and 'Candy'...
