What are the opinions on this lady's work?

I only remember "Won't Someone Dance With Me?" and the mole on her face.

Over at Uncut, Mr Lester and I are currently trying to start up an LDP revival - two mentions this month! We think she's great. The whips and viola (Fred Frith!) on "Sugar Me." The template for Elastica which is "Getting A Drag." The neurotic funk of "Water." Also the tracks on the Barry Blue compilation which has just come out (reviewed by Lester in current issue) are largely cowritten by the good lady. Yes I know she's a Tory, but she is (or at least was) a pop visionary (and yes I did fancy her like mad when I was a nipper).

All sounds very good... Uncut seems the place for appreciation of her music, as Mr Carlin has made many mentions, at least on his blogs. Maybe gradual mentions could lead to a feature? :) Though I take it features tend to be on less obscure (obscure now anyway) artists?

Jesus wept.

I met her once, when she was the presenter and i was the guest on a risible Live! TV (remember them? trampolining dwarves reading the weather, topless darts etc) show called *cough* "The Vinyl Countdown". It was kinda like "The Antiques Roadshow" for music and memorabilia - I had an old David Bowie album (woo), a signed limited edition Gene single (yay) and The Wit & Wisdom Of Ronald Reagan which the producers decided wasn't sufficiant, so they bunged me some naff Michael Jackson-related tat to present to LDP as if it were my own. She seemed entirely made of plastic. I've never heard her music.

She was James Coburn's main squeeze for quite a while.

Lynsey is totally underrated, Lynsey wrote 14 top 40 hits in the period '72-'77. She was the UKs first real female singer songwriter.

PS as host of a TV show she would ahve hardly had time to be anything more than plastic. I have met her and she was great!

one month passes...
Lynsey recorded 5 albums in the 70s - in those days albums were not stuffed with singles but nevertheless the standard of the songs were excellent as were the B-sides to her singles.
