"Y'all Ain't Ready Yet" off the Mind of Mystical...it's funny people seem to give his pre-No Limit stuff the short shrift.

I didn't see it coming, because he didn't really rap about sexually assaulting people. Also, where the hell is "I'm on Fire" on that RG? It's still his best song!

three years pass...
Three years later...

New Orleans rapper Mystikal was released from a Louisiana Federal Prison last week,
according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The rapper was sentenced to six-years in
prison after pleading guilty to extortion and sexual battery charges, stemming from
an incident in which he forced a woman to perform oral sex on camera, after he
caught her writing $80,000 in bogus checks. A representative with the Federal Bureau
of Prisons confirmed with AllHipHop.com that the rapper, born Michael L. Tyler, was
released from prison on Jan. 11, almost one-year after being denied parole. On Jan.
19, 2006, the 36-year-old rapper went before the prison systems parole board, which
denied his release. Just seven days earlier, on Jan. 12, a judge had sentenced
Mystikal to an additional year on two misdemeanor counts of failing to report almost
$2 million in earnings from 1998-1999. Mystikal was allowed to serve the misdemeanor
tax sentence concurrently. The representative told AllHipHop.com that th
e Desert Storm war veteran was labeled a "full term release, " but will be placed
under court-ordered supervision in Middle Louisiana, or the district he resides in.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 26 January 2007 01:31 (nineteen years ago)

A friend from New Orleans told me this story:

While being arrested, Mystikal turns to the local news cameras and says, "New album in November. More on that later."

Whoa. Apparently not so sorry at that point in time. Hah.

An update:

While the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that New Orleans
rapper Mystikal was "released" last week, fans of the rapper may be
disappointed. Sources close to Mystikal told AllHipHop.com that his
"released" status is correct, but that it is related to a federal
misdemeanor tax conviction last year. A representative with Jive
Records confirmed that Mystikal, born Michael L. Tyler, is still
incarcerated and serving a six-year sentence at Louisiana state
prison, Elayne Hunt Correctional Facility. Mystikal is serving the
time after pleading guilty to extortion and sexual battery charges.
The charges stem from an incident in which the 36-year-old rapper
forced a woman to perform oral sex on camera, after he caught her
writing $80,000 in bogus checks. Yesterday (Jan. 25), a
representative with the FBP confirmed with AllHipHop.com that
Mystikal was "released," because he served one year of a different
sentence concurrently, after he was convicted in Jan. of 2006 for
two misdemeanor tax violations. He was sentenced to the additional
year for failing to report almost $2 million in earnings from
1998-1999. Representatives for the rapper said they have been
bombarded with phone calls for show and interview requests, since
the rumor started spreading last week.

Release appears to be scheduled for Jan 14, 2010 barring any Oz-type shenanigans.

Mystikal Released From Prison, Encourages Positivity

Veteran No Limit and Jive Records rapper Mystikal walked out of the Louisiana State Prison System late yesterday (January 14). This comes after a six-year sentence was given to the rapper in 2004, for forcing a stylist to perform video-taped sexual acts on the popular rapper. Initially claiming innocence, the surfacing video later changed the New Orleans Rap veteran's plea, and led towards his sentence.

“We gotta pay more attention to what we’re doing our self. That’s an easy excuse,” Mystikal told local radio station Q93. Speaking about the Rap community's ever-present incarcerations, including Louisiana peers Lil Wayne and Lil Boosie, as well as Atlanta rappers T.I., Gucci Mane and perhaps Shawty Redd, Mystikal added, “We gotta take responsibility for what we do. We can't be foolish especially when you are blessed and successful. We gotta tighten up.”

Mystikal first released an independent self-titled 1994 album. After catching the attention of popular Hip Hop label, Jive in the year after, he would release Mind Of Mystikal in 1996, garnering the now 39 year-old rapper, his first gold plaque.

With the emergence of No Limit Records, Mystikal would prove to be Master P's first major label acquisition, prior to Snoop Dogg two years later. In partnership with Jive, No Limit would release two platinum albums with Mystikal. After leaving Percy Miller's label at the end of the '90s, Mystikal returned solely to Jive for his biggest success, 2000's Let's Get Ready. The album was a #1 album on the Pop charts, backed by singles "Shake Ya Ass" and "Danger (Been So Long)." After one prior gold album, Tarantula in 2001, Mystikal's recording career went mute for almost a decade.

He told Q93 that he maintains plans to rap, but with a lesson-learned. "I'm gonna be doing a lot of positive stuff he said," unclear whether he meant on or off the microphone. He did say though, "Wait till I shake the world up now," regarding his music.

There is no specification as to whether Mystikal has any label obligation at this time.
