Si Begg & Tipper

I've really liked a lot of Si Begg's work over the years. I know that i've probably missed some gems, can anyone recommend some good remixes that I should track down?

I've also heard some pretty interesting Tipper tunes recently. I'm looking for some of the crazier dancefloor stuff not his Idm material. Any recommendations? I think the Tipper remix of Radioactive Man is sick!!!

Aw man, once i get home, I can sift through all the Buckfunk 3000/Si Begg/Tipper stuff and recommend some goodies.. but off the top of my head.. This page is a decent perusal of the Fuel Records (UK) catalog which has a slew of both.

Buckfunk 3000 "Planet Shock Future Rock" and "High Volume" singles are class-act booming classics.

Buckfunk 3000's First Class Ticket to Telos album was the first thing I ever heard by Begg, and won me over in a big way -- which has been frustrating as he's been pretty scattershot since (db's right, though, "High Volume" is a lot of fun). He did a good mix of Tipper's "Dissolve," can't remember any others offhand.

My favorite Tipper album is The Critical Path, but his Holding Pattern album may be more in line with what you're looking for. (The new album Surrounded is more in the Ninja Tune chill-out vein and pretty generic, IMO.) For remixes, check out Eyedentity's "Heavy Interference," Diaskeaust's "Latitude by Observation" and Subphonic's "Vega Beach Party".

Si Begg was also behind the Cabbage Boy stuff on N-tone too- some of that was interesting as a sort of techno-trip-hop hybrid..

Don't know his whole catalog, but I still play stuff off the Opus EP on Tresor quite a bit.

I saw the S.I.Futures in the discount bin at RecordTime last week - decent techno-electro stuff but never got around to buying..

Si Begg mix of Bolz Bolz's "Human Race" is great too.

I like the Si Begg mix of Bolz Bolz's "Human Race". The Buckfunk 3000 remix of Sven Väth's "Schubdüse" is also really cool! I dig S.I. Futures - Eurostar. "Thermostat" on the new Si Begg album sounds also on a loud soundsystem.

Thanks for the recommendations, I figured there might be some good tunes that probably slipped pass me. Thanks everyone, keep the recommendations coming

Ha, I looked at this thread and the first thing that popped into my head was "MOD YOU/MOD YOU/MOD YOU". YAY CABBAGBOY.

Si's "Welcome to the Discotheque" is also pretty damn great filter-disco, now that I think about it. I guess some of his individual tracks are so amazingly strong that I always find his albums a slight letdown -- "oh, not 80 minutes of sustained genius, oh well."

Si Begg has got a nice remix of Michael Forshaw's "Cheerleader" floating around at the moment. Saw Tipper perform Surrounded in Dolby Digital Surround and it finally made sense. My head was whipping around involuntarily like a dog trying to follow the sound!

Check out the two fuel compilatons called Sound Off, one is mixed by tipper and one by his mate Salid. Tons of cool tracks on there. Andrea Parker has done some awesome stuff in this style too.

Simple....Q-Project's Champion Sound Remixes!!! Tipper pulled his best magic trick on this one by taking a dull DNB track and modulated every thing possible to the point where you never know where something is going to change. His best re-work by far.
On C.I.A a 2000 release.

Job, a compilation of that would be nice and sharing with friends even nicer.

three years pass...

i'm just getting around to listening to a whole bunch of noodles discotheque stuff and much to my amazement i love it! (i assume begg is behind each one?) all its signifiers -- an alarming amount of "breaks"; wacky negativland aspects -- are like put together by robots to make me hate it, but the project failed.. it may be my old love for Emergency Broadcast Network (straight outta providence) but this stuff really puts me back in that 100% rave frame of mind. even the way these things are compiled makes me think of genesis p. orridge.. this big fake compilation where everything is actually by begg - fab!

the Si Begg remix of a Radio 4 track (second album) is just fantastic. keeop meaning to dig it out for the blog etc.
this is the time for action.

If you want to listen to something a bit different from Si Begg, I'd recommend the Commuter World LP on Caipirinha, which is a mostly non-dancey concept album about commuter life in London.

The Complete Death of Cool comp is worth checking out too, though some of the cheekier tunes can get sorta irritating. But his dub remix of that line dancing song ("Will the Circle Remain Unbroken") is pretty awesome.

And the S.I.Futures album mentioned upthread is pretty great too, especially "We Are Not a Rock Band" and the tune he did with T Power (can't remember the title).

seventeen years pass...

Si Begg is underrated.
