How's Vic Chesnutt Live These Days?

Vic Chesnutt's playing at the Tractor in Seattle in a couple of weeks. I love his CDs, but when we saw him at the Crocodile a couple of years ago, he was pretty dreadful, drunk, played bits & pieces of songs, rambled on about pretty much nothing, just really not a good show. Is this typical, or was that just a bad night?

When I saw him live he was great...did the first have solo acoustic and then the second half with a big band (as in lots of people not Glen Miller)

I think I read somewhere that he doesn't really drink anymore.

he was good when i saw him (but opener M Ward was better) - he kept getting pissy with the drummer (who was making lame jkokes) and said something about how from now on he was "keeping Heinekin off the rider." I'd be surprised if that dude was along on the next tour.

He also berated audience members who dared to shout requests. He was surly, and only played stuff from his last album (which I ws already familiar with and liked a lot, so no biggie). But do you want refined or do you want the truth??!? This ain't Coldplay, bitch!!

anyway, yeah,. go see him. he rules.

one year passes...
Saw him in Pittsburgh a month or so ago, supporting Jonathan Richman of all people.

"Played bits & pieces of songs, rambled on about pretty much nothing" kind of sums up the experience, although unlike the original poster in this thread, I thought it was great. Then again, I'd seen him before and so knew what to expect.

Listening to "Little" right now, for the first time in ages, which is what prompted me to search for Vic Chesnutt threads. What an astounding debut.

while I was still in elementary school
I discovered Daddy's tools
and amassed a small pile, of scrap lumber
and I built a rabbit box
and i set it facing north
but i caught a possum and a kitten
both of which were a bitch to set free
cause I thought they were going to bite me
but we all three escaped safely

well once I took my single shotgun
and put on my camouflage
and hid in the neighbour's pasture by the little cow pond
and finally after a long time
a bunch of doves flew by
and landed in a huddle on the power line
and so I aimed with an eagle's eye and fired
but it was two pigeons that fell like bean bags into the weeds
well they sure looked like doves to me

Honestly, I thought he was dull as dishwater when I saw him last year.
