Hank Snow

What do you think of Hank Snow? I first heard him as part of Morrissey's last tour's instrumental music. Actually, I thought it was Elvis doing "Old Shep" but it turned out to be Hank Snow. Do you prefer the Yodeling Ranger songs or the later songs? Since he does so many songs that I first heard through Elvis, his versions can sound so dimunitive (I guess anyone's would though in comparison). For example: in "I'm Moving On" Elvis really does sound like he's moving on; Hank sounds like he'd be quite happy to stay actually. Also: "I've Been Everywhere" -- I think I've heard Johnny Cash singing that, and he sounds like a victorious braggart and hardboiled; Hank's version sounds like he might have been just as happy to stay at home. P.S. I love his name.

He gets mad shout-outs from the Grand Ol' Opry crowd, like he's a forefather or something. He's no Uncle Dave Macon, but he's damn good.

four years pass...

Just got Grand Ol' Opry Favourites from '73 - amazing singer. Not rage or passion as the first poster here said, but sublime phrasing, letting the song do the work.....so what else should i get?
