animal collective rarities

ok, so what's out there, aside from the obvious? i listened to hollindagain on headphones for the first time today, and it's gone from being almost my favourite thing of theirs to definitely my favourite.

also arto lindsay's "in the city that reads" (featuring avey + panda i think) is on heavy repeat; and the avey bear stuff on the split 12" with david grubbs is great, particularly "abyss song".

but what else is there? there seems to be a panda bear solo album, but i can't find much apart from the two mp3s here:

http://www.insound.com/mp3/searchmp3.cfm?searchby=P

and the review here:

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/p/panda-bear/panda-bear.shtml

is it still available? has anyone heard it?

also, once again - is anyone willing to make copies of the jane cdrs, or put them on slsk or something?

is there other stuff out there i don't know about?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

toby - i have the panda bear solo album. it's just ok. i can burn it for you for postage costs.

I didn't know the FatCat split was out yet??!?!? When was that released? I need that record...

I'm also looking for the Jane CDRs...

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The FatCat split came out in November but it is Avey Tare solo.
I know the band is very accomadating to their fans, if you write them ([email protected]) and ask for a live recording I think they will make one for you. I think they are planning to start offering live CDRs from their website. Maybe you could ask about Jane stuff too.
There is an exclusive track called "Forest Children Risen" on one of those Contact Records Comps
There is the produced yet unreleased Geologist solo album, which I've seen stacks of in boxes, but never heard.
also, fyi "in the city that reads" features all 4 ac members.

Magic City (ano ano), Monday, 19 January 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

roger - you're on slsk right? the fatcat split is all over there, you can get it off me if no-one else.

have emailed re panda bear.

also on the animal collective rarities theme, there are various live sets on slsk. i remember the forest gospel 2/9/01 one being fantastic, though i haven't listened for a while.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 19 January 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

obv i meant "avey tare" rather than "avey bear" in my first post.

thanks for the info magic city, i'll give it a go...

toby (tsg20), Monday, 19 January 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

is the fatcat split out in the States too? because i've searched Yod, Forced Exposure, and ebay, and nothing.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 19 January 2004 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

here's a complete list of what i'm aware of exists on soulseek since mine stopped functioning.

-the fat-cat split
-forest children risen
-in the city that reads
-live at dublab summer 2003
-live at che cafe may(?) 2003
-live on wfmu (forest gospel 2-9-01, same as the first side of hollindagain)
-live in bristol, 10.23.03
-live 5.10.03, in the UK, what i believe was the fat cat showcase...this is my favorite
-5-9-01 on free103.9
i once had another set from north six a few days after the fat cat show, wasn't the best quality...and i have a few .WMAs from what i think was a radio show on KVRX which is the first ten minutes from the fat cat showcase in better audio.
also, there is the terrestrial tones track, "experimental farm", from the "space is no place" comp on psych-o-path.

does anyone else know of other sets? if there are more out there, i'll have to either renovate my computer or find someone to download and burn these for me.

Mike metzger, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Roger pls put panda bear on slsk! I have the two tracks from insound, and I think they're really nice.

Abyss Song (Abby's Song) from the Fat Cat Split is particularly impressive.

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

hey mike metzger: help out the people in olneyville, ok?

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

how long is hollindagain?! i'm beginning to think my (d/l-ed, couldn't find the orginal anywhere) copy may not be the whole thing...

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Hollindagin has the three tracks from WFMU (I see you Pan, Pride and Fight, Forest Gospel) and then it has Lablakely Dress, Pumpkin Gets a Snakebite, Tell it on the Mountain, There's and Arrow. Hmm maybe a couple more I can't remember

Magic City (ano ano), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

well, the copy i have has precisely those tracks, so if that's it i've got the lot...

so it seems that panda bear will be live on resonance fm today:

http://www.paw-tracks.com/

looking at the resonance website http://www.resonancefm.com/ it seems it'll be 5-6pm gmt. i'll be in a seminar, but if anyone can record it (they have a live stream) i'd be very grateful...

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 29 September 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

i have "always you" that is tagged as being from "live rarities". is that the same as the resonance thing? i want more tracks like this one

am0n, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

ha, weird seeing this again. i haven't even bothered to listen to strawberry jam yet.

toby, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

i just heard 'baby day' for the first time. it's the 'who could win a rabbit' b-side so not too rare, but still great. nice vocal work. i'm a huge sung tongs fan, though.

poortheatre, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

They're such arseholes the way they rename songs so you find a whole batch of stuff that you think you've never heard and it's basically Feels with different titles. Also, it is overstated how much new stuff they always play live because Hollindagain must be the only concert they did of new stuff and guess what happened to that?

I know, right?, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

For the record I love animal collective.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

Also, it is overstated how much new stuff they always play live because Hollindagain must be the only concert they did of new stuff and guess what happened to that?

I don't understand this sentence.

mizzell, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

actually, I don't either

I know, right?, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 19:10 (seventeen years ago)

u kno they play mysterious songs
then release them on a record
mysterious songs become old songs..

other songs become 'live rarities'
or lost in memory

tramp steamer, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

somehow
someday

I know, right?, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

Also, it is overstated how much new stuff they always play live

I think they mix more new and old now but the first time I saw em it was mostly Feels about a year before Feels came out. I had four of their records and didn't recognize anything.

dmr, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

in other words tramp steamer otm

dmr, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, probably

I know, right?, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

recent bbc6 session. the new version of chocolate girl is really gorgeous, even though they cut off the best part of the song.

a good animal collective song, how's that for a rarity

the late great, Tuesday, 3 December 2013 20:16 (twelve years ago)

the album version is entirely different except for the vocal melody, and a lot slower. this arrangement of taste was only played live in 2007. the BBC version from 2009 is a lucky one-off that has the final lyrics but the original music. i love both versions but prefer this one. but i don't think it wouldn't have fit on the record that way. i should've posted this version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1HXQ1ybwBM

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Tuesday, 3 December 2013 22:52 (twelve years ago)

in the same vein, "Song for Ariel" (pink?)

There is the produced yet unreleased Geologist solo album, which I've seen stacks of in boxes, but never heard.
