Best synth themes

I have to admit that synth theme on "Jump" by Van Halen is one of my guilty pleasures. Really great theme. And I am also certainly fond of "Take On Me".

Even "The Final Countdown" - although the rest of the song is terribly naff - deserves a honorable mention here.

Others?

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"Telstar" I'd say is the lead melody rather than a synth theme.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

it's still the theme!

I guess I should have called this "best synth theme from a song where the vocalist is the lead instrument", to avoid confusion...

The Doctor Who theme wins, but lots of Orbital tracks ("Lush", "Halcyon", "Out There Somewhere", "Adnan's", "Know Where To Run", "Satan", "Choice", "Remind", "Impact", "The Box", "Sad But New", "Illuminate", "Funny Break", "Otono") come very close.

Propaganda's "P:Machinery" has two of these: The almost Kraftwerkian, melancholic opening one (after the bleeps and the chanting), and the mad-big-fanfare one that's the de facto chorus.

OleM (OleM), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

OleM OTM with "P:Machinery".

The Cure have a couple good ones too: "Let's go to bed", "The Walk", "Close to me", "The perfect girl", "Fascination street".

Also Yazoo - "Situation", "Don't go",
Depeche Mode - "Just can't get enough"
Human League - "Fascination"

Seb, Thursday, 22 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)
