Amazing stuff... who has favourites or recommendations among the series?

(I hope you aren't one of those people who hates when someone does that.)

Where have you been? I haven't noticed your name here for a while.

Maybe we inhabit parallel ILM worlds.

Numbers 3 and 4 are absolutely to be searched. One's instrumental, one's vocal, both essential.

"tezeta" from no. 4 is the swoonsomest song I know.

Lots of people seem to like 4 a lot but I think the vocal stuff is better. £ is possibly the best comp but 8 (Swinging Addiss) which is a bit more western in style (and only a bit I hasten to add) has a lot of charm. And the CDs of stuff by Alayamhe Ashete and Mahmoud Ahmed (names sic) are both excellent.

the vocal stuff is better. i'm too lazy to google it, but the volume with the king david's harp is beautiful and mellow. "ethiopian blues and ballads" (vol. 10 or 11?) is also good. frankly, i haven't heard a bad one (though i've avoided that 90s azmari disc, i admit).

I've got 2 and 7 and enjoy them both a lot.

nine years pass...

So there are two (different?) compilations titled The Very Best Of Ethiopiques, with different cover art. Both have 28 tracks. One is subtitled 'cult hits from the original series' and appears to be from 2011, which I think is way earlier than the compilation of the same name that I know. Anyone know if there are there redundancies between the two comps? Are they alike in name only, or is this the same comp?
