Hey,
Need some help as i have to DJay in a club next week for a punk rock session and I'd like to add some recent ass-kicking "electro-punk" trax to my setlist. For instance :
LCD Soundsystem - Yeah
T. Raumschmiere - Monstertruckdriver
Adult. - Glue Your Eyelids Together
Tuxedomoon - No Tears & In the Name of Talent
Wire - The Art of Kodack
( + something by Scissor Sisters ? by Ssion ?...)

Anybody has any idea (I'm sure you do...) ?

Merveilleuse set-list...

Jean-Francois Manhattane (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

International Deejay Gigolos have reissued 'Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight'.
If you can get hold of a copy (might be easier on CD than vinyl though) try Paul McCarnety's (yes, really) 'Temporary Secretary'.

Scissor Sisters' version of 'Comfortably Numb' usually makes people dance.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanx Anna, I'm gonna try to check IDG out (but McCartney's "Temporary Secretary" in a punkrock club : no, really !)

AleXTC, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Savage Progress - My Heart Begins to Beat

Electric Six - Dance Commander (Benny Benassi Remix)
Cooler Kids - All Around The World (DJ Monk Pop Shockin Elektro Vocal Mix)

Le Tigre - Deceptacon (DFA Remix)
Moguai - Get On
Dave Gahan - Bottle Living (Tomcraft Remix)
T.Raumschmiere - Rabaukendisko (The Bug Dancehall Remix)
Laibach - Tanz Mit Laibach
X-Scape - T.E.B.S. (original & Liquid Overdose remix)

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Temporary Secretary has to be one of the most overrated tracks ive ever heard

how about

Justus Kohncke - Ich Versteck Mich Vor Der Wirklichkeit
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - A Daisy Chain for Satan
Legowelt - Disco Rout
Syntax - Pray
Juan Mclean - You Can't Have It Both Ways
Severed Heads - Dead Eyes Opened
Mescalinium United - We Have Arrived
Trip Commando - Energy Tanks
FBD Project - Terminate
Swayzak - I Dance Alone

Stringent (Stringent), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Temporary Secretary is McCartney close to his most annoying (and I'm a big fan of must of his Beatles' stuff and even some of his solo stuff...).
Think playing that track in a punk club could get you killed actually (or badly wounded...).
Didn't plan to commit suicide in 2004, so...
Anyway, as for the rest, do you know where I could download these in order to make an opinion ? (cos' I don't think I'll be able to find, say, International Deejay Gigolos : 'Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight', on Kazaa...).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 12:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, Thrill Kill Kult is a good idea, but you may go for 'Sex on Wheels' to keep it rock-ish

Jean-Francois Manhattane (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

And we definitely want to keep it rockish...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

RACIST!!!

Le Coq (DarrenK), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, maybe forget mine then

Stringent (Stringent), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

controversy ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

dominatrix sleeps tonight is by dominatrix - its was on the Andy Waetherall Nine O'Clock Drop CD, so that might help your searching

Robin Goad (rgoad), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ladytron's cover of 'Oops (Oh My)' could also be cool.

Jean-Francois Manhattane (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

And we also want to keep it cool, so there...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and of course:

waldorf - fashionist (disco metal mix)

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Siegbran - that Waldorf record is more ridiculous than Andrew WK!
Temporary Secretary is McCartney close to his most annoying (and I'm a big fan of must of his Beatles' stuff and even some of his solo stuff...).
Think playing that track in a punk club could get you killed actually (or badly wounded...

In my defence: the Radioslave re-edit is good.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

what if I thought Andrew WK ruled...?
I'm puzzled...

didn't here the Radioslave re-edit... maybe I should give it a try... (but the simple idea of hearing THAT song kinda makes me sick...).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, that Waldorf track is weird indeed...think of Van Halen's "Jump" mixed with crunchy guitars, disco, and some guy shouting about Italian fashion brands.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

You missed the Gregorian-style chanting: "Arrrmaaaaniiiiih"

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Console - Surfin' Atari or Zero Zero would fit the bill nicely.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey that Waldorf track seems to be the greatest thing since...evah !
gotta get me that...

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

the normal - warm leatherette, tvod
vanity 6 - drive me wild, make-up
the flirts - passion
public image limited - death disco
henning hero - schools out (akufen style cut-up of alice cooper over a stompin t.raumschmiere-esque beat)

probably anything by t.raumschmiere

pete from the street, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Something by Cheeks on speed also ? We don't play guitar, maybe ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Possibly..."Der Mussolini" DAF, "Agenda Suicide" The Faint and "Kick it" Peaches/Iggy Pop

I would love to hear someone who sounds like Jesus & Mary Chain crossed with Vitalic - is there anything out there?

Mike donnelly, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Could try some:
Epoxies
Cripples
Soviet
The Fitness
Stylex
Anna Oxygen
The Planet The
Devo
Polysics
Mu
Throbbing Gristle
Cabaret Voltaire
Crossover
Ghost Orchids
Mommy & Daddy
Death From Above
Presets
Crack:WAR
Numbers
Lost Sounds
Metric
Broker/Dealer
I Am Spoonbender

Uh, I'm at work, so can't remember track names off the top of my head. Should mostly be soul-seekable...

Matt Robotn1k, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the idea of you guys at work busy thinking about that kind of topics instead of working hard for the money...
makes my "work" days less lonely !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

As discussed,
Add(N)to X - Metal Fingers in my Body & Total Out of Water

Jean-Francois Manhattane (Fabfunk), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

'Electrobix' was always my Scissor Sisters weapon of choice as it's a bit more electro-y than the newer stuff.

Chelsea by Hiem.

Fischerspooner?

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah do Radioslave ever release tracks to plebs or is it all gold plated 12s to famous DJs and Anna?

I heard their remix of The Jumpoff by Lil Kim and it was good but it is non-existant outside of the one time it was on a dance show on the radio.

I suggest:

Ann Clark-Our Darkness
Covenant-Bullet (Ellen Allien Mix) these are mixed into each other on some mix I have, forget which, maybe Felix, so maybe try, both very good)

Also:
Zoot Woman-Living In A Magazine (Paper Faces Remix)
Felix Da Housecat-Silver Screen Shower Scene (Les Rhythmes Digitales Mix)
Lady B-Swany (Vitalic Remix)

I can't seem to think of anything with a really guitary punky element to it except maybe the Zoot Woman remix but trust me the rest are good and are electro punk to me anyway.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

(that Waldorf track IS weird, I got it off Siegbran on Slsk ages ago and I think I listened to it after coming in that night, here on the computer at some ridiculous hour. Anyway I think I deleted it straight away but I don't remember really, I think I made the right decision somehow.)

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I've wanted to ask this for a while as there have been many threads like this, so it is in no way an attack on the person who started the thread. But, unless someone is really asking for a few additional songs he may not have heard of to fill out his set list, if you really need to be told what to play, what the hell are you doing DJing in the first place? If I were to get a job at (to use this thread's example) DJing an electro-punk night, it would be because I knew that music up and down, and could program it appropriately. To me, being a good DJ has little to do with turntable skills and everything to do with knowing the right music to play. Just had to get that off my chest.

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

"Something by Cheeks on speed also ? We don't play guitar, maybe ?"
fashion rules and universal pussy rock so much more.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Metal Urbain/Metal Boys/Dr Mix and the Remix! You can't say the words electro-punk without mentioning Metal Urbain. And kudos for Severed Heads Dead Eyes Opened, not really punk or whatever, but one of the best synth-pop/sequenced post-kraftwerk whatever cuts ever.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah do Radioslave ever release tracks to plebs or is it all gold plated 12s to famous DJs and Anna?

Um, guilt now. It seems to be a Christmas present from Parlaphone. This shows how much I pay attention.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

section 25 "looking from a hilltop"

any of steward's faster tracks (the titles of which are eluding me presently)

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

just messing, don't feel guilty!

Pleb (Ronan), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

nb there is also an Adult. cover of 'No Tears'

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll add to that suggestion of Section 25's "Looking from a Hilltop" that you specifically seek out the Megamix version of it. it's nice and ominous and good. also around 8 min. long.

also, Bis' cover of "Telephone Operator." or possibly the "Robotic (Just Last Week)" Syndrum mix.

janni (janni), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"FBD Project - Terminate"

Argh! What is this and how on earth is it "uber-style electro-punk"???

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 22 January 2004 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

As an answer to Sean, I totally agree with you but it's not about making a whole set of things I don't know at all, it's more like trying to find 1 or 2 tracks that are great to add to a set that's totally under control otherwise... (it's always nice to discover new things, yes ?)
So basically, the set is a punk set and the idea is to add to it some electropunk tunes that are not already too famous (i.e not "house of jealous lovers", "me and guiliani"...). that's where you brilliant people get in the picture !
see ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 22 January 2004 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan,
funny you should mention Metal Urbain 'cos the set is actually gonna be for one of their Punk Club nights...
Eric (Dr Mix) is organising it.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 22 January 2004 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Cabaret Voltaire - Nag Nag Nag - I was playing it last night and thought of this thread.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 22 January 2004 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice to think of this trend at work AND at nite...
Anyway, I've listened to Waldorf'fashionist... think i'm not the same person since...
Dominatrix is more a goth-ish kinda thing than an electropunk kinda thing, I thought, hum ?
I can't really see what's the thing about "comfortably numb" by the scissor sisters, am I normal ? (well maybe not anymore. cf Waldorf...).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 22 January 2004 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer Electrobix by the Scissor Sisters but the "punk" connection is dubious at best.

Tribulations by LCD Soundsystem might be worth a spin.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 22 January 2004 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The Fatboy Extended Mix of Comortably Numb is a pretty big improvement on the original

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Thursday, 22 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Recent tunes you should check out:

Les Georges Leningrad - "George Five"
Vive La Fête - "Noir Désir"
Tiga - "Burning down"
T.Raumschmiere feat. Miss Kittin - "The game is not over"
Trash Palace - "Sex on the beach"

And some less recent:

Playgroup - "Make it happen"
Fat Truckers - "Superbike"
Tok Tok & Soffi O. - "Missy Queen's Gonna Die(Martini Bros Remix)
The Faint - "Worked up so sexual" or "Glass Dance"

Seb, Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

try "didi extra" by the georges as well!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 22 January 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
I miss January 2004.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only just discovered 'Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight'. This is like, the best thing ever.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)
