The sound of Neko Case being backed by Kelly Hogan is a real bona-fide thing of musical beauty. In a set plagued by momentum-nullifying technical difficulties last night at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, these two ladies had it going on.

I'm not even saying it was a spectacular set (it wasn't), but there were times I could fall right into this swath of space Ms. Case and Ms. Hogan were vocally carving out.

What tandems have you seen lately really deliver the goods and transport you somewhere other than your seat, if only for just a few moments?

Anyone else at either show last night? Was the late show any better than the early one?

And . . . perhaps this should be a separate thread, but aren't the late sets almost invariably better than the early ones?
