Luton's premier urban act (lolLutonisntreallyanareafamousforurbanmusiclol2005!) drop new album. I get the feeling I'll be the only person to care, but... "Show skills on the boards like Tony Hawk". That's a nice line.

Nice album as well, the usual laidback beats and tounge-tied rhymes... early contender for UK hip-hop album of the year 03, for definite.

Someone else must give the slightest toss?

I'm looking forward to hearing it, must pick up a copy soon.

As for 2004, this must surely be the year when Rodney P's LP finally arrives? And if the Skinnyman LP's as good as the promo ep thing out on LowLife recently then that will be shockingly fine too.

I have mixed feelings about a Rodney P solo album, possibly because I wasn't around when London Posse were. Rodney P's just like the Busta Rhymes or someone of British rap though, isn't he? He's great value for a guest verse, but can he actually carry it to a full album?

Has the Skinnyman promo leaked yet? That I am interested in. Also, isn't there a Klashnekoff full-lengther in the pipeline?

"Shouting more than John Thaw in The Sweeney". This album is great.

"Leaked"? Dunno. I bought one from a shop! The world of electronical downloads is a closed one to me.

I think Rodders is classic, we'll see about the LP, but I've been saying it's going to be great for so long (they've been promising it for two years or so, haven't they?) that I can't stop now.

I've read one or two things about a Kalashnekoff LP and I'm looking forward to it, but these things always seem to come with insanely ambitious projected release dates, don't they?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm so far away from any decent record store in Lancaster, I think the chance of me finding a LowLife promo in HMV is roughly equivalent to the chance of.... ooooooh.... Pitman being on Lisa Maffia's next single.

There was an actual release date for the Rodney P album last summer, wasn't there? Any idea what's holding it back?

Also, there's a decent chance of a new album from at least one of the two big guns of Brit-hop (Manuva and Twang) this year, surely?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah the good old days of Ear 'Ere records on Penny Street are long gone (I think they closed just after I left but I'm sure that was a coincidence).

I'd be more surprised to see a Blak Twang record than I would a Manuva one, but I'm not sure why. I heard a Mongo track laying into Mr. Twang on this Suparnovar/Mud Fam mix CD recently, it was quite funny.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that the "Blak Twat" cut?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i still can't wait for p brothers

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Dom: no! How rude!

I find the P-Brothers adherence to the old-old school banger a bit tiresome, but then I haven't even bothered listening to their last few EPs so maybe I'm out of touch.

Maybe there'll be a proper Taskforce LP this year, that should make all of you happy.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh joy....

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Having said that... I do like Jehst. There. I said it.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

(did i say this to u before tim i forget) anyway i find p bros ridiculously intense oldskool eccentricity to be more profoundly english than rapping about tea cosies and such

prima fassy (bob), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't recall you saying that to me before, Bob, but my memory tends to be rather 'strained' after FAPs.

It's a perfectly fair point, rather a good one in fact. My P-problem is more to do with boredom than anything else. I find their records kind of uninvolving. I like Scor-Zay-Zee a lot.

I'm not into the UK hiphop because I want to hear something distinctively British, I'm into it because I think some of the records sound fantastically great... the fact the records are about splitting the 63 route into the 63 (Southern terminus Honor Oak) and the 363 (Elephant - Crystal Palace) is something to talk about, something hooky.

What happened to Out Da Ville?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, british hip hop suXor

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 26 January 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard Rodney P's record got held back again due to sample clearance (it was due in September and promos went out / leaked to the net).

I've been looking forward to it so much (and refuse to download it), the singles (Riddim Killa, Murderer Style etc) were all excellent.

Can someone point me to a link with more on Ricochet, don't know jack about him but really dig the few tracks I've heard.

Mil, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

There's an oldish Terra Firma interview on UKHH, http://www.ukhh.com/features/interviews/terrafirma/index.html but I don't find it especially illuminating.

I think the problem with RP's LP was sample clearance, there were all these grumpy, semi-cryptic messages coming out of LowLife about people not doing their jobs and holding things up...

Mil, I've seen a Rodney P single around called Tings n Time, do you know anything about that one?
