At this point, would slapping him make a difference?

Fly in the vaseline indeed...

Addicts need to bottom out to turn things around, right? Rockstar money is like a bungie cord. Weiland just keeps bouncing up and down and eventually the thing goes slack and he'll be dangling there like Layne Staley. We need to stop buying STP albums so Weiland can get the wake-up call he needs.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

You admit to buying Stone Temple Pilots albums then, Mark?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

you know, judging by the sales of Shangri-La Dee Da, I'd say that Weiland is gonna miss that memo.

Jeepers crikey, the Stone Temple Pilos aren't THAT bad!

"Oh yeah, they're much worse than the fucking awesome rockin' American music out now! Oh man, isn't that new Limp Bizkit album just the fucking greatest thing you've ever heard? And that new Linkin Park song? Man, doesn't it just send chills down you're fucking spine when that guy screams at the top of his lungs? Ooh, and that Papa Roach band? Oh man, don't even get me STARTED on how awesome Papa Roach are. No sireee! God I love rap-metal!"

I'm not sure you've chosen the best approach.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked Weiland's solo album.

STP were the Billy Idol of the 90s, and how much better can it possibly get than that.

dave q, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

they hand a handful of good single....I've always wanted to hear that Tiny Music Songs from the Vatican album....I loved Big Bang Baby -- - it was all glammy and fun, i heard the albums the same way.

Interstate Love Song is one of the greatest of the alt-90s hits.

Stone Temple Pilots are one of those bands whose singles I'm somewhat embarassed to like. Not all of them, but I quite liked "Sex Type Thing" (great riff), "Fly in the Vaseline" and "Big Bang Baby".

I can't think of the Stone Temple Pilots without remembering an article I read in the Beastie Boys' brief magazine, Grand Royal. Upon hearing that STP played a show at the Roseland Ballroom in full Kiss make-up, quoth Mike D:

"I can't believe the Stone Temple Bozacks did something so cool!"

"Velvet Revolver" ?

oh, fuck no.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i liked their cover of "dancing days," too.

i remember not liking them much when they were still BIG -- lumped them into the whole they-sound-like-pearl-jam-and-i-hate-pearl-jam-so-fuck-'em folder. looking back, they aren't as bad as i remembered. a bit more fun than beddie wetter's bunch, and they produced a coupla great pop singles. i think that they will be remembered better than some think (though they won't be considered great, exactly).

still, scott weiland can be such a dumb-ass.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Scott Weiland is the biggest fuckup musician I've ever seen. If you factor in his band's horrendous music, he may be the most pathetic excuse for a musician ever.

Even Tommy Lee didn't get this many second chances from Pammy.
