He's playing in Toronto for the first time next month. The album is good, how's the live show? Is it worth seeing?

Does he dance?

He's awesome, a kind of 8-bar Dean Martin with all the jesting and the punnery. In Roll Deep, he did a lovely routine with Wiley involving a batty bwoy and a carelessly spilled Martini.

i recommend spending the extra money and purchasing your ticket with the dinner option

Thanks for the input, but I just found out that the venue doesn't include valet parking in the price of the ticket, so I don't think I'll be going.

al?

and what, Friday, 16 May 2008 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

I saw him support Babyshambles, and the event simultaneously made me hate all white people and all black people at the same time.

He was great but the 2005 club show at which I saw him had a bonecrushing 25 people in the audience. It was the saddest show I've ever attended.

He was okay live about four years ago. $20 sounds about right.

forksclovetofu, Friday, 16 May 2008 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

I saw him on Monday on this tour. Dizzee was ace, El-P was...well, solid if he's your thing (i.e. Def Jux paranoid political rap about 1984, George Bush, etc.) But yeah. Dizzee's set was great front-to-back, never lost a minute of momentum and more clarity (sonically) than I've heard at any hip-hop show I've been to in recent memory (although that was probably a venue/acoustics thing). Significantly more than 25 people at the show, but not as many as there should have been.

So that's a yes. Definitely worth the $20...

DIZZEE RASCAL IS HYPER WITH HIS MOMENTS. HAVE HIM TRY TO OFFTOP WITH SOME SOUTHERN CATS HE'D GET ATE UP EVEN IN H. HE'S A GOOD WRITER THOUGH. GOOD MEMORY. BUT IT WORKS AT HIS DISADVANTAGE WHEN HE NEEDS TO SLOW DOWN.

I saw him on Thursday. It was packed. He was great. El-P was pretty terrible. Didn't realise how buff Dizzee had got - he was topless for pretty much the whole show.

"all rappers suck live"

correct. including dizzee. only good when the songs get a bit faster (i wuv u, stop dat, stand up tall etc) otherwise its kinda boring. he gets hype for the grimey songs, but those arent that many in the set, so hes generally just doing the usual rapper routine of this side against that side, hands in the air, make some noise blah blah.

titchyschneiderMk2, Saturday, 17 May 2008 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

best bit he did when i saw him was a little a capella. but he was good overall, fun to watch.

Devin's great live; the fact that he distributes weed to the crowd as he plays doesn't hurt.

forksclovetofu, Saturday, 17 May 2008 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

I managed to see him play at the Forum for free, can't remember exactly how. Main memory of the gig: feeling very very old. Oh, and seeing Ty hanging around outside afterwards. I think he was alright, but he can't have been that amazing.

saw him in January, sadly lame and all the cliches of a weak hip-hop show; everybody say this, everybody say that, TOO MUCH HYPEMAN and the screens came up with big pink BUY THIS NOW ON ITUNES ads when he played Flex. would probably be more fun in a small venue though.

energy flash gordon, Monday, 19 May 2008 02:08 (eighteen years ago)

i wouldnt go and see him if aaron la crate is gonna be there, just on principle.
