out today, finally. I just came home from picking up my copy. I have high hopes. also, my friend who works at TowerRecords.com told me that they've been getting preorders for it at "a shocking rate", which is encouraging.

I am very excited about this album...please update thread once you've heard it....I listened to Po Pimp in anticipation the other day....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I also got mine - anticipating it greatly. More later.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a few Kanye productions, yes?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

For some reason the idea of a Nate Dogg and Twista collab is striking me as the NEXT THING THAT MUST HAPPEN.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Make it so!

Patrick Stewart (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I just now realized that there have been some more last-minute changes to the tracklisting - it's still 16 tracks, but 2 have been switched out for 2 different ones, so there's a track w/ R. Kelly in place of "Show's Over" (aka "Show Go On") f/ Freeway, which is a fucking great track that i was mad when it got left off Free's album a year ago ( FREEWAY - PHILADELPHIA FREEWAY ), then I felt better when I saw that it was gonna be on Twista's album, and not it's not on either. but it's great, download it.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

fun facts about "Slow Jamz" that I've learned reading the liner notes: Bacharach & David have a writing credit, and my suspicion that the girl telling Kanye to do it faster is Aisha Tyler has been confirmed!

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't think it would sound so southern, lots of clicky drums and keyboards and with t.i. and luda and cee-lo and jazze pha and eightball and too short on it. southern and jazze/kanye-style soulful tracks. both types are nice.

cloverlandthug, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

'kill us all' and 'drinks' are my two overall favorites.

cloverlandthug, Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno, before I knew much about Twista, I kind of assumed he was from the south, if only because of the fast flow and the Luda and Trick Daddy collabos and stuff, but yeah, there is a southern feel in the production too.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

just got to "Badunkadunk" - woah, it's not the same beat as the version on Kanye's I'm Good. the vocals are the same, but it appears that Kanye's beat was switched out for a new Jazze Pha beat (probably because they couldn't clear the sample on the original). I don't like this one as much as the Kanye version.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

best part about the uplifting joint "Hope" - that one of the numerous things Twista wishes for is "that super-homey Christopher Reeve could walk".

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah Show Go On is incredible.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

the kanye one ws love hangover yeah?
i'm trying to save money right now but i'm going to have to break my no new music rule to buy this i think, mp3 isnt enough to xpress my love

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The shout-outs in slow jamz is the best part.

Chris V (Chris V), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

listened to it yesterday, decided not to cop it. there's some cheesy production and bad choruses. the R Kelly is terrible. but, there are two nice kanye productions. just another patchy rocafella album in my books.

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

for the record, he didn't sign to rocafella until like last week. this record is on atlantic.

andrew s (andrew s), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

well, he's been tight with the Roc since '02, and they wanted to work out a deal with Atlantic, but it never quite happened, and then last week at an Atlantic showcase, Dame Dash jumped up onstage and wilded out about how he wants to sign Twista and Atlantic won't let him, but Twista's part of the Roc fam anyway. it's got the 3 Kanye productions plus the posse cut with Bleek, Free and Young Chris, at least.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"for the record". although i guess i'm even more confused than before about twista's current label then. oh okay, here's a better story.

andrew s (andrew s), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Ummm, that Christopher Reeve lyric is a bit strange, no?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Hearing Cee-Lo and Twista on the same jam has made my 2004 already, holy shit.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

but Christopher Reeve

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You will believe a man can rap.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

#1 album in the country this week what what. I really like it, any record that starts with a gothic battle-rap in 6/8 is fine by me. The Busta collaboration is on some Battle of the Titans shit, and the ending with Cee-Lo and then Anthony Hamilton songs right in a row is like "attention, everyone who made it this far, you are rewarded by getting actual real live slow jamz to have sex to."

Begs2Differ, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't think busta's on it, is he? what track?

cloverlandthug, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

This album is way too long and rowdy inconsistent...but holy shit "Overnight Celebrity" and "Slow Jamz" are dope.

djdee2005, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh shit, cloverlandthug, you are correct, got it mixed up with the other record I have been listening to this week, David Banner "Like a Thug" remix with Twista and Busta on it. Never mind...except it is cool to hear them togetha.

Begs2Differ, Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

djdee, really? A hip-hop album that's way too long?

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 4 February 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Just wondering...is this the same Twista who was once called Tung Twista and released a couple of albums in the early 90s? if not, they're both from Chicago....

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

its the same guy. i was a bit disappointed in kamikaze. a few good tunes though. slow jamz and celebrity overnight are TIGHT.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

djdee, really? A hip-hop album that's way too long?

better a too-long hip hop album than an irrelevent revivalist hipster band.

djdee2005, Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

That's awesome. I met that guy when I was 16 or something and he was hanging out at Chicago Trax. I went there w/my dad who was touring the place on some bank-related deal.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 5 February 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I kinda like how oddly the album is sequenced, with 2 dark, paranoid tracks up front, and then like 6 up-tempo tracks in a row. "Higher" is nice, despite the fact that it's basically Luda and Twista's "Poppin' Tags" freestyle from I'm Good over a new beat.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 5 February 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
So does the new Twista album suck or something? I came across Begs2Differ's review, but other than that haven't heard a thing.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 31 October 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

it's not bad, I haven't decided if I like it more or less than Kamikaze yet. I definitely don't like it as much as Matt, though.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 31 October 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

the new album has more boring moments than kamikaze - which i never really thought was overlong because of inconsistent quality but rather too much quantity - eg the pharrell tracks are really quite shit. but its highlights are so great! 'hit the floor' is the most amazing thing on here, this post-'culo', post-'shake' beat which is just so insanely sick that you can't quite believe it. also the line "she don't like bacon? COOL i'll give her sausage". the lil kim track is also super-hott - kim really has hit a rich vein of form this year. and i love 'get it how you live' in the same way i love all completely generic crunk-pop production.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

i think i'm still trying to get over the cover.

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

also it's probly no coincidence that as soon as i heard pitbull buss out in 03 i wasnt partic bothered with twista anymore! such is the life of a remix king

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

actually wasn't twista trying to release a comp of all the remixes he'd been on! probly ages ago now but it would have been a seriously hott album

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Tuesday, 1 November 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

"So Sexy" is such an underrated jam

The Reverend, Monday, 20 April 2009 04:26 (seventeen years ago)

seven months pass...

No matter how much of a thug you see/I still spit it like it's r&b

just sayin, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 16:05 (sixteen years ago)
