The Best I've seen:

AC/DSHE (three guesses what their gimmick is)
Alice in Cooperland

Nom De Plume (Nom De Plume), Thursday, 29 January 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

AC/DSHE (three guesses what their gimmick is)
Alice in Cooperland

I've see ads for the AC/DShe band but not the Alice cover though I do like their name.

I thought that GABBA, the Ramones-style tribute to Abba was pretty funny.

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 29 January 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I always thought that a good Belle and Sebastian covers band could reference their heroes and f*ck off as well!

Blushing Brides

Davlo (Davlo), Thursday, 29 January 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

There's Half Man Half Biscuit tribute band called "It Ain't Half Man, Mum".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 29 January 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a band around here called Stealing Dan

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 29 January 2004 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Hell's Belles better than AC/DShe, personally :)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve Garvey's Hair (Devo cover band about 15 years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The Red Stripes ownz!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

they're absolutely terrible by the way, in that they singularly fail to do the one thing it says on the can: that is, be reggae. Otherwise, not such a bad idea.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Gabba used to do 'Gimme Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment After Midnight'. Where are they now?

Snotty Moore, Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, well the Red Stripes did a punky cover of UB40's "Rat In Me Kitchen", believe it or not. Fools.

Nowaysis, The Stoned Roses, The Scottish Sex Pistols (terrible name but did feature Johnny MacRotten :D ), T-Rextacy, erm...

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Not a cover band but a good 'secret gig' name

Lesbian Dopeheads On Mopeds (aka Gaye Bikers On Acid)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Hell's Belles better than AC/DShe, personally :)

dean! (deangulberry), Thursday, 29 January 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Hayseed Dixie do country-style AC/DC covers...there's a canadian Sex Pistols cover band with a singer called Rotten Johnny...my favorites still Japanese Queen tribute "KWEEN"

winterland, Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Hayseed Dixie is exactly who I was gonna post on here. Their CD is fucking perfect. It's almost like those songs were written fer pickin'.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a Beautiful South/Housemartins cover band called, perhaps predictably, The Beautiful Southmartins.

Also, some local tribute acts include R.E.E.M. and the even-less imaginative Meat Loaf 2. The latter sell t-shirts at their shows. No, I have not been to one.

Colin Cooper, Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The Scottish Sex Pistols (terrible name but did feature Johnny MacRotten :D )

... plus Sid MacVicious, Paul MacCook and Steve MacJones. But the best one was their manager, Malcolm MacMacLaren :)

OleM (OleM), Thursday, 29 January 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

High On Maiden
Mentallica
Alike Cooper

all clog up the Walthamstow Royal Standard / Croydon Cartoon etc on a regular basis. Running a rehearsal studio as I do, I've had a few tribute acts here - The Red Stripes (see upthread), The Dud Kennedys and Avid Bowie spring to mind. I know there's been more but their names have obviously been too shit to stick in my memory.

udu wudu (udu wudu), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I always liked Dread Zeppelin (the reggae Zep cover band)
and Cubensis (the Grateful Dead cover band, for being obv but not immediately obv)

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Norwegians Det Betales (translates as "it's getting payed" or something like that) is a classic for us who live here in the cold North.

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Friday, 30 January 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
A friend of mine and I started a 3-piece Sabbath tribute called Fairies Wear Boots. We all wore chain mail. We played one show in some guy's basement and drove them fucking crazy.

Recently saw a poster in Glasgow for Non Jovi.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 14 August 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Irn McMaiden - Scotland's premier Iron Maiden tribute band. Perfect!

Stew (stew s), Sunday, 14 August 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

Never heard 'em, but I'm pretty sure that the Tex Pistols DON'T actually play Sex Pistols songs hayseed-style. (But wouldn't it be GREAT?)

There's a Pogues cover band here in Cleveland called "The Boys from the County Hell." Not a funny play on words but still a kickass name. And they probably put on one of my top 5 favorite shows of all time.
