"Opening Band" rock

what rock bands fit this description to you.. basically bands that just sound like they are opening for someone else and will never climb a higher plateau... ???? mmmmm?

(mind you, this is a concept borne out of boredom of us Seattle FAPpers at the Cripples show we just came back from.. where we had to wade through way too many "opening band rock" rock bands. Not to mention a good deal of drunking)
