Nimrod = London Calling Knockoff?

Anyone think that Green Day was just slightly inspired by London Calling for Nimrod? Beyond the obvious punk touchstone, both albums engage in genre experimentation, are structured around several classic singles placed in the first half, and have a sentimental-ish song at the end that unexpectedly became a crossover hit.

btw, Nimrod's Green Day's most listenable album for me now. Anyone else feel the same?

1. No, nothing in common with London Calling.
2. Dookie.

The Clash were hardly the first rock band to try new styles. But in that the Clash were an influence on all the West Coast punk bands of the time, sure.

Nimrod is the least listenable. It sounds really hesitant and dated to me now - Warning is a much better album for experimentation and not sounding like punk-pop.

Kerplunk or Dookie would be the most listenable, then Warning or 1039SOSH.

Green Day are supposedly highly derivative. I don't know who
they're supposed to have emulated, but it's not The Clash.
Social Distortion, maybe? I wish I was listening when they
explained this is _High Fidelity_.

Stiff Little Fingers is the band mentioned in that scene.

The Buzzcocks and the Descendents seem like obvious touchstones. I hear Paul Westerberg (circa "Favorite Thing") in the vocals on occasion.

High Fidelity said something about the Stiff Little Fingers but I never understood that comparison. Esp. because the track they played was "Suspect Device" and I don't hear a connection there at all.
