All this time I've wondered what that magical ingredient Modest Mouse added to the Pixies formula was, and then I realized....

Please tell me that you actually have a signed picture of Bobcat Goldthwait, and you didn't just find that on the internet.

I think he sounds like Gary Numan, but I'm not prepared to get a lot of support on this one.

Bobcat Goldthwait was arrested in a supermarket in my hometown in Iowa (post-Police Academy) because tehy thought he had shoplifted some cough drops which he had actually bought previously from some other store.

you aren't the first one to draw that comparison. Some clever fuck here on ILM made a similar remark in the wake of MM's performance on Carson Daly weeks ago.

FWIW I always though he sounded more like Cartman.

I like the new album tho - better than the new Bonnie Billy and new Wilco but not as good as the new Devendra Banhart or new Destroyer

He rips off Tom Waits on that one song. I dislike the new album, but not as much as the new Wilco. Well, the idea of the new Wilco, I haven't actually heard it.

i am glad to hear bob is buying cough drops

you aren't the first one to draw that comparison

I figured, though I hadn't seen someone do it yet.

And to be fair, I really do enjoy about four songs on every Modest Mouse album I hear. "Float On," "Brilliant Disguise" and "Dark Center Of The Universe" are personal favorites.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 8 April 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah that Float On song is good, it's getting play on our local "alt-rock" comercial stations too, which suprised me. I didn't realize it was Modest Mouse at first, though....It was wierd, because my first thought was, "Am I finally hearing Franz Ferdinand?" (who I stil have not heard)....it sounded kinda poppy and dancier and somehow Britisih in comparison to old MM

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 April 2004 16:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, ironically the only good songs on the new mm album are the ones that dont sound anything like mm

five months pass...
wait, did Roger admit to liking the new Modest Mouse album? What's gone wrong?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i think wifey did.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

wifey seems smarter than that.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahahaha! Wifey likes them quite a bit. I never cared either way until that last one - The Moon & Antarctica - which they played at my job (Borders, at the time) constantly, and I grew to like it. I like this new one too. Just reviewed it for YF. It's fine.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

but it ain't no fuckin' Fountains of Wayne, I'll tell you THAT!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, Moon & Antarctica is pretty decent, actually.. but the most recent one = teh badness. Too many keyboards!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

The Moon & Antarctica is classick. I didn't care much for the last one though. I'm too busy building a Lady SOvereign shrine.
