A couple of months ago I heard 'I Got The...' on the radio. It's excellent, and obviously quite influential (apart from the bit that Eminem used for 'My Name Is' I think the intro was ripped off by Primal Scream on 'Kill All Hippies'). I don't know anything else by him apart from 'Something Inside So Strong' (which I bought at the time but don't like now). Can anyone recommend me anything like 'I Got The...'?

didn't one of Chas n' Dave play on 'I Got The...' as well? you couldn't make it up

I like "Freddie's dead" and "A number of words" a lot as individual songs. The album I own is called "the singer and the song" and it's kind of nice, but not amazing. So maybe search singles, not albums.

S - I Got The (obv)
D - Something Inside So Strong

I heard that Labi Siffre is black, gay and Welsh. Man, talk about oppressed...

Hum-di-hmm. I've only got So Strong, bought it really-really cheap once, and the one time I listed to all of it (I actually knew nothing about the artist beforehand) the album sounded abso-abomina-lutely boring... Haven't cared to recheck.

Yeah, like I said I bought 'Something Inside So Strong' at the time but I don't actually like it now. I was about 14 and I think I bought it for the right-on politics rather than the music. But 'I Got The...' is just incredible. You wouldn't believe it was the same person.

I bought a vinyl copy of Remember My Song the other day. It's the most mid-70s thing ever, in a good way. What band, what a sound! The Vulture is so funky.

is this really all there is about this guy? happy to see he's still alive. he's made some really beautiful open-hearted songs

I had never even heard of this guy until I saw The Holdovers and wondered which James Taylor album the closing credits track came from. And it wasn't James Taylor! But what a perfect way to close that movie.
