If Julian Casablancas came out and admitted to being a cross dresser, a supporter of Castro's regime, someone who is turned on by dressing like Batman and started to parade around random world cities

Because they aren't half a bit dull.

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I've still not got The Strokes second album. Should I bother?

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it's got its moments

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Really? Hmmm, not so keen on the newest single.

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't listened to it in a while, but my bosses are too fond of whiny british white people music by half, so i've been a bit turned off by anything remotely similar.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Which is the newest single?

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Did cross-dressing and supporting Castro make Nicky Wire interesting?

dave q, Monday, 19 April 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

good point

Sym (shmuel), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

If he makes Donkey sounds like

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

dave q, I sent you a big bag of stuff on Saturday morning, has it arrived?

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

"Stuff"?

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely they already are interesting, or why bother posting about them? Doesn't have to be in a good way, mind. If yer asking me, The Strokes are interesting to music fans in a similar way that melanoma is interesting to dematologists.

GoddamnHo, Monday, 19 April 2004 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh man totally hilarious. You've got the gift.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 19 April 2004 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

'reptilia' is fantastic. has it been announced what the third single is yet, if anything?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard "What Ever Happened?" on the radio yesterday, so I was wondering if that was. Sounded great.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

If Julian Casablancas came out and admitted to being a cross dresser, a supporter of Castro's regime, someone who is turned on by dressing like Batman and started to parade around random world cities naked at weekends making Donkey sounds would it make The Strokes interesting?
Nah, because cross-dressing Castro supporters who get turned on by dressing as Batman, and parade around random world cities naked at weekends making Donkey sounds are ten-a-penny these days!!!! In fact, it's exactly what you'd expect someone like Julian Casablancas to do immediately prior to the release of the third Strokes longplayer!!!!! In fact, they'd probably film it and use it as the video for the first single off tha elpee!!!!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the motownish one, 3/4 way through? That would be the natural single.

Re the album, yeah I like it as much as the first...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

They're not singing about anything though are they? They can't possibly benefit anyone's life. Just another 'say nothing' rich American rawk group innit? It's not exactly Pulp.

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Are Mercury Rev big in the States? I never hear Americans talk about their finest group much. What are they up to now?

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

what have you been doing for the last six years, sitting in a basement with earmuffs on?

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that actually Calum? I can't tell anymore

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The idea that MERCURY REV have more "meaningful" lyrics than the Strokes makes me really doubt it's him, it's actually too stupid to credit

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Heck, if mr C started a "Mercury Rev vs The Strokes" thread, you'd all go Mercury Rev, you know you would...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the oft vapid nature of JC's lyrics isn't necessarily a bad thing (tho often is), is at least countered by the nice buzz the band create in many of their songs. 'room on fire' has grown on me a huge amount in the last six months, hard to explain why (gaye pun not really intended)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

What can a rich American kid who's spent his time in boarding school and never wanted for anything tell me about my life?

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

is the only reason you listen to music to be 'told something about your life?' wtf? why do you need musicians to tell you about your own life?!?!?!

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yes that is a bad attitude

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't listen to them because i want to know about THEIR lives either. maybe the vaguely 'universal' nature and themes of a lot of the songs are deliberately diluted enough to appeal to as many (young) people as possible though, like so much great (and bad) pop.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 April 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I at least want to relate to something, if not the words then the attitude or style or SOMETHING. Christ, is that too much to ask?

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Not so much wrong as stupid. Read a book or something if you dislike music so much.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

music that says something about Calum's life would be terribly depressing for the rest of us

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I love music, just not "say nothing" music. Are you honestly telling me you don't have music that you listen to because you feel it calms you down/ makes you happy/ you relate to/ you put on before going out etc?

Or are you a dance ned?

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Sonny - that's just not nice.

CRW (CRW), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh you fucking tosser. "dance ned". Fuck off, C-Man.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Neither are you nice, C-Man.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Course I do. Also I own and listen to other records. I have a few.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Bow in awe. He owns you, you know.

I couldn't help myself (kate), Monday, 19 April 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I really hate you people.
