This album is so good. I never even heard of this guy until now
Holy cow...One of the best soul albums hands down.
Anyone else have this album?

I've got the complete Goldwax singles - he is a God!!!!!!!!!!! I played "Life Turned Her That Way" at least once every day since I bought it.

I love James Carr but am not sure why he regularly gets rated the greatest of the great. When I read the Barney Hoskyns's book about country soul, I suppose in the mid-80s, the JC records were completely unobtainable in the UK, so I built up such an expectation before hearing them that I was certain to be disappointed. I think I prefer Percy Sledge and I know I prefer Candi Staton and Bettye Lavette's best work.

None of which detracts from the fabulous quality of James Carr's actual recordings of course.

We love a troubled genius, that's why.

I guess so, and poor James's difficulties meant that he didn't have a '70s and '80s back catalogue of slowly declining quality to tempt and disappoint fans, either.

You Got My Mind Messed Up is an absolute classic. I also recommend you pick up Man Needs a Woman, which Kent reissued with 14 bonus tracks.

"The Dark End of the Street" is surely one of the best soul singles ever.
