I had NEVER heard Chaka Khan and Rufus' "Sweet Thing" until I heard Prince play it last week. NOW it is my FAVOURITE song EVER!!

Your turn.

"mud in your eye" by fleur de lys. the bass intro and the desperation in the singer's voice are sextacular

the surface noise is so overwhelming that it renders the contents of the re (ele, Thursday, 10 June 2004 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

A friend just forwarded the mp3, "Dick is a Killer" (a spliced-up Dubya speech gone haywire ala EBN) that I'm sure has already well made the rounds, but it completely cracked me up.

Despite being a Cure fan for some 15 years, owning a few of their albums, having seen them in concert, having two ex-gf's who were huge fans, having a first cousin who is an obsessive fan, etc. etc., I heard the Disintegration album in its entirety for the first time only a couple of months ago. How I managed to unintentionally avoid it for 15 years defies any rational explanation.
btw, "Plainsong" is an incredible tune.

DAN PERRY AND NED RAGGETT TO THE THREAD, STAT.

I'm hopelessly out of touch. The last time I felt like this was when I heard the entirety of Eno's _Here Come the Warm Jets_ a couple of years ago and it immediately became one of my favorite albums ever.

nazia hassan - aap jaise koi. The bollywood equivalent of dancing queen apparently.

Ha, I just heard "Here Come the Warm Jets" for the first time a couple of months ago too.
Yep, I'm just biding my time until Dan, Ned and the rest of the Cure faithful arrive to possibly kick my ass. But they can't say anything that the folks I mentioned above haven't already told me.

FINALLY bought some Jonathan Richman, and "Roadrunner" is doing it for me - although when "Government Center" comes on, I have to play that one at least three times in a row...

Aretha Franklin: Since you've Been Gone, though I played it in my band some 23 years ago.

Just bought Meat Puppets 'II'. It's really good.

Now, I still don't have any Killing Joke. Are they any good?

Since first encountering ILM and eventually SoulSeek just last year, I've gone on a music buying/downloading binge. This, coupled with having the time and money that wasn't available to me in my youth (basically becoming a bored, working stiff w/ an iPod), has caused my album (CD/vinyl/mp3) catalog to AT LEAST double in the past year. So, basically, it feels like everyday I discover a song/album that "everbody else" knew was great.

AdamL is that you Nordic@d@m? i can't keep up anymore....

ANYWAY my favorite song discovered recently is Isaac Hayes' cover of "By the time i get to Phoenix" - the horn stabs in that make me cry with joy!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 10 June 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Wire's "A Touching Display". A mate of mine sent it to me recently because I thought Wire was merely some boring batch of art students that focused on style over substance. This song blew my mind.

The Chameleons initially unnerved me until I heard "Soul in Isolation" and now I want all their albums.

Just recently got into the Dead Boys "Young, Loud, and Snotty." It's brilliant and I have no excuse for not owning that album any sooner.
