i have a dymaxion 7" (on duophonic i think). its mildly engaging. but, i think they have a lot of records since then? and they have a good name. so, what are they like? better than that 7?

"Mildly engaging" otm, nothing I heard since that 7" did anything much that was exciting enough to make them seem not just another damn band in a time of far far too many Ok enough bands. I was working in a record store, however.

dymaxion are crap, and that record is the most pointless thing duophonic have ever put out (with reasonable competition from the minnow EP they did)

the surface noise is so overwhelming that it renders the contents of the re (ele, Thursday, 10 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

(do i sound like keith there? sorry)

They do an interesting cover of the Fall's US 80s 90s that doesn't sound like the original. There's a CD that compiles a large chunk of their singles. I don't see it as hugely essential.

When they emerge to play a live show, which they do with the relative frequency of the Transit of Venus, they're pretty fucking great.

Well, I'll stick up for them. I dig that compilation CD, but it's best absorbed in small doses, even though the songs are typically very short. And it took a few listens before some of the songs sank in. Re-visit "I-Man Transport" - it's so eerie, like some 50s sci-fi/horror movie soundtrack...and when the strings enter and begin to swell right at the perfect time, it's a great moment. The forementioned Fall cover is indeed something special - I wish more covers, in general, were as off-the-wall and inventive as this one.

dymaxion is AMAZING!

i'm sorry to say it but you guys are nuts. (minus rasheed and ernest p.)

it's all awesome.

get "Dymaxion x 4 +3 =38:33" if you want to hear the other singles they released. (which are rare... a couple were japanese imports if i recall correctly.)

i could see how duophonic fans might be unimpressed, but the morricone trajectory is too good to ignore in my humble o.

I have the Trattoria EP they did with Takako Minekawa (Maxi On!). Some of it is good, some of it is mildly engaging, overall a keeper of sorts.

I totally second msp's endorsement of Dymaxion x 4 +3 =38:33. Having seen them play -- which, again, was a treat -- before hearing any of the records, it took me a while to fully embrace them. But now I listen to 38:33 pretty regularly.
