lukey (Lukey G), Thursday, 10 June 2004 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

last train to Clarksville - Prince of Wales - Chesterfield summer 91 (night I got my A level results in fact)

Some might say (a duet of sneering punk energy my mate described it as, hopelessly out of tune said everyone else) Rose and Crown Chesterfield sometime in 95 I think, maybe 96.

That's it, ever.

Until I find one that does Atmosphere by Joy division.

chris (chris), Thursday, 10 June 2004 09:48 (twenty-two years ago)

(heck, there was no karaoke at mauritius or new york) xpost

I check lists all the time (out of interest, not to participate). Best/worst one ever seen was "Song for Guy" !!! what, stand around for 3 mins doing nothing, then go "life" "Isn't everything" for 30 seconds at the end?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 10 June 2004 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Snap! Daydream Believer is the only one I've ever done...and it was in the wrong key :-(

Jez (Jez), Thursday, 10 June 2004 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

it certainly was...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 10 June 2004 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

(Thread flagging, post old story)

No, it was a pro/am Karaoke evening at "Up the creek". Myself and a girl friend (but not...) as contestants amongst various other. I did "Daydream believer", she did "Pearl's a singer" while riding a kiddies ride type horse. Kirk was one of the judges. My backing track was too high so I sang it sub-basso and it sounded worse than metallica. Kirk's reasoned response was "Mark Grout... Diamond Geezer... What went wrong?" The eventual winner was Wattie out of the Exploited (in civvies) doing "I'm doing it all for my baby" (Huey Lewis song (his baby is 3 years old etc...)
Umm, is that a strange acid flashback hallucination? Actually, no that all happened for real...

Only once -- "Behind Closed Doors" at a (nearly) all-lesbian party. I was pretty friggin' good, too.

My Generation
Johnny B. Goode
Pinball Wizard
The Real Me
Jump, Jive, and Wail

Superstition

Each rendition more horrible than the last -- all I can really do "well" is scream. Won't stop me from butchering "I Don't Want to Go to Chelsea" next time. An old roommate used to practice mic-twirling for just such an occasion.

I'm currently boycotting one of our spots due to the public spanking that took place last time there.

Three Joy Division songs: "She's Lost Control", "Transmission", and "Wilderness". Karaoke in Creative Writing class at the end of the year. Spastic dancing? You bet.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 June 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah, and the first song I ever did was "Back In The Saddle." As far as breaking your karoake cherry goes that's like losing it to a syphilitic Marlon Brando at a maximum security prison.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 June 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
At a gay bar in DC last week I broke up the warbly versions of "That's What Friends Are For" and "I Feel Pretty" (done by a hairy shirtless guy) with "Lithium." Managed the screaming better than the croony verses. The following queen hissed "Thith microphone hath thpit on it." (and it wasn't even the same one, eh)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 6 October 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

my day of glory will be when I find "Creep" by TLC

emilys. (emilys.), Thursday, 6 October 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

A friend and I did "Minnie the Moocher." I did the responses. Let's just say it was never released.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Thursday, 6 October 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm into "Let's Dance" these days. It's all low crooning, until the "like flow-AHH!" part, plus a 56 bar sax instrumental for extended posing.

Old School (sexyDancer), Thursday, 6 October 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

My most awesomely enjoyable ever was:

"Lithium" at 9am in Tokyo after a night of clubbing.

Coming close was:

"Pump up the jam" (done as a duet) in a small wooden shack somewhere in Vietnam.

Most mackingest ever moment was "Hypnotize" in Tokyo at a fashion industry party - a 19 year old model sat in my lap after I was done and told me she'd never heard anyone do it as convincingly before. Don't hate.

Surrealest was doing "It's a small world after all" in a bar in Singapore full of plastic foliage and stuffed animals with two bar-top dancers providing the backing vocals.

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 7 October 2005 07:57 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Japan is best for Karaoke options- my brother and I did a duet version of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" in Tokyo at a gay bar, which was super fun, and then we kinda fucked up when we tried to do "Are You That Somebody?"- that song is crazy hard to really sing properly.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Friday, 7 October 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

Safe to say I haven't done this, because I would not be alive. I know the whole point is not really singing properly/pretty, but I make cats sound like Callas. I once sang in front of the class and everyone, including the teacher, laughed. She couldn't even comfort me nor say to my *friends* to shut up. Actually if I ever have the chance, I'll sing that Godz song.

nathalie, a bum like you (stevie nixed), Friday, 7 October 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

well, too many (and too much alcohol)to remember all, but amongst the most enjoyable :
"O mon bateau" Eric Morena
"Gentleman cambrioleur" Jacques Dutronc
"I believe I can Fly" R
"We are the World" (with around 10 friends on "stage", me directing quincy jones style)
"your song" elton john

and so many more... aaaah le fun...

besides, the songs I'd like to karaoke but haven't yet :
"the girl is mine" macca-jacko
"ebony & ivory" macca-stevie
actually, macca is a great karaoke songrwiter !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

Haven't done any karaoke, unless you count Club Poptimism singalongs, which I'm not.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:15 (twenty years ago)

Trying to do karaoke 'funny' : Dud

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 7 October 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

five months pass...
I was shocked at how much passion I was able to muster for "turning japanese." I didn't think I especially liked that song, but apparently I do.

emilys. (emilys.), Monday, 3 April 2006 01:11 (twenty years ago)

my kareoke history = standing james blount up a lot

emilys. (emilys.), Monday, 3 April 2006 01:11 (twenty years ago)

all time best:
Sam Cooke - Another Saturday Night
not counting 'Hey Jude' cos anyone could kill with Hey Jude. and I KILL with Hey Jude.

all time worst:
Talk Talk - It's My Life
a voice-cracking debacle, I looked forward to being the last singer and I closed the bar in most embarrasing fashion.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Monday, 3 April 2006 03:19 (twenty years ago)

I eagerly await the karaoke apocalypse that will rain down upon Seattle during the EMP music conference.

"Lay Lady Lay"
"Don't Look Back In Anger"
"Without Me" (private karaoke room only)

Eazy (Eazy), Monday, 3 April 2006 06:06 (twenty years ago)

These days my key tunes are:

Johnny Cash - "Folsom prison blues" (good warm up as it isn't exactly challenging)
Sean Paul - "Get busy" (awesome fun, but a little repetitive)
Aaron Kwok - "Ai bu wan" (purely for the dance moves)

Jacob (Jacob), Monday, 3 April 2006 10:42 (twenty years ago)

I usually do "Everytime You Go Away" whenever I get the chance.

My karaoke set this Saturday afternoon:

'Irreplaceable' - Beyonce

'All The Small Things' - blink-182
'Helicopter' - Bloc Party

Mercer Finn, Monday, 3 September 2012 06:20 (thirteen years ago)

My karaoke piece-de-resistance is Bjork's "It's Oh So Quiet" sung in the style of Bernard Bresslaw.

I once saw a moustachioed middle-aged man in Ilfracombe do the whole of Star Trekkin' with all the voices (even the very squeaky ones) all the way through without breaking a sweat. It was possibly one of the most disturbing experiences of my life.

This Is... The Police (dog latin), Monday, 3 September 2012 10:38 (thirteen years ago)

what kind of karaoke night has Romeo Void and King Crimson on it?

This Is... The Police (dog latin), Monday, 3 September 2012 10:39 (thirteen years ago)

When we did "Into the Night" I snuck in the alternate 'I'll take you back to my lair/And bathe in your blood' lyric someone on here came up with. I think my girlfriend is still concerned.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 3 September 2012 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

hahaha!

ms fotheringham (Crabbits), Monday, 3 September 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)

what kind of karaoke night has Romeo Void and King Crimson on it?

and sisters of mercy's "lucretia my reflection"!

pastoral mellotron soaked epic gnome and wizard shit (get bent), Monday, 3 September 2012 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

My most infamous karaoke moment was doing "Fuck And Run" at a gay bar without considering the lyrics beforehand. P.S. I'm not gay. P.P.S. My ass was grabbed.
