On June 8, legendary designer Dan Armstrong passed away, reportedly suffering from a massive stroke or heart attack.

Dan Armstrong made a lasting mark on the music industry with his creations. Among his most well known and memorable designs would be the plexiglass guitars and basses, making their appearance in the 60's and reissued by Ampeg much more recently, and the classic Orange Squeezer compressor that simply plugged directly into a guitar's 1/4" jack. Other Dan Armstrong designs include the Purple Peaker and Green Ringer effects.
=========================

The Plexiglas Dano became instantly famous among guitarists when Keith Richards began hauling one around on American tours. Despite being a mediocre instrument, players knew it to have a sound that enabled a distinctive tone with a slide that fit well into the recording mix.

For years, Black Flag's Greg Ginn was seen with nothing but a Dano, often with a bewildering amount of duck tape wrapped around it.
The Georgia Satellites' Rick Richards also used a Dano, most often with slide.

Like the Dano Plexi, the Orange Squeezer stomp box was recently reissued.
