Portobella - Covered In Punk: the best single of the last 100 years?

It's Shampoo plugged directly into the punk mains: Bow Wow Wow instead of Bananarama. It uses a laugh as a hook. It gets things wrong: it has no interest in getting them right.

Luciana Caporaso, she of the "we will destroy this modern rubbish manufactured pop with guitars" rhetoric, is keeping the fact that she used to be in Crush with Donna Air a bit quite, no? Wonder why that is.

There's an enthusiastic description here by a DEN Perry. A sign!

is this a new release?

the surface noise is another unwelcome bonus resulting from a preamp's inab (ele, Friday, 11 June 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, they're one of the bands from MTV's "Breaking Point" "indie Fame Academy" show.

Where do I hear this? MP3 bloggers, get on it!

haha "double-entendre"

I was suprised that MTV were showing a video that I couldn't find out anything about on the internet, until I realised it's from the MTV show. I think all four bands are releasing a single this weekend.

The answer to the question is yes: like all great singles, it's the greatest thing ever while it's on.

The answer to the question is also no: The bootleg of this vs Razorlight's Golden Touch that kept aseembling itself in my head on my walk into work yesterday is better.

You spelt "worst" wrong in the thread title Andrew

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 11 June 2004 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Why on earth she'd hide the fact that she was in Crush a secret is beyond me. "Jellyhead" was so awesome. Better than this, anyway.

The most telling moment in the song is the looped laugh in the bridge, a moment of spontaneity repeated again and again: emotionally and aesthetically it fits comfortably in the space between Ginger Spice's giggle at the beginning of "Wannabe" and Johnny Rotten's cackle at the beginning of "Anarchy in the U.K.," between manufactured outrage that resonates anyway and manufactured outrage that resonates anyway. This might be my single of the year.

Just heard this for the first time earlier this week, and now Fluxblog's introducing it to the US on a grander scale.

If it's not the best single of the year (which it isn't), it's definitely in the top 10.

It's great, yes. But "Jellyhead" is still better. They're supposed to have a new single.

so where the fuck is portobella? vive la difference was some thin gruel, it's ancient anyway and 'covered' is kicking my ass anew. Note the sense of urgency here(here).

That "Yeah Yeah" by Bodyrox ft Luciana... Luciana _is_ her from Portobella.

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Monday, 30 October 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

I'm beginning to HATE haircut electro :(

fandango (fandango), Monday, 30 October 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

'vive la difference' was/is excellent but 'covered in punk', if it's the one i'm thinking of (has a video) is terrible.

Did I hate this at the time? I remember feelings of disgruntlement. Maybe 'cos the song kind of sags when it's not approaching the chorus. And it's a bit Republica (I know, why is that bad!) and the MTV tie-in...

ILM OTM though.

This >>>> "Yeah Yeah", Girls Aloud >>>> to infinity, and beyond! >>>>>> "New Rave"
