bump

Splitscreen, Friday, 11 June 2004 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds very 80s electro influenced. And No Keith!!!!
I quite like it so far. Needs a few plays though.

Rock Bastard, Friday, 11 June 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I love this. And i also love the the fact that i have 6 more new Prodigy-tracks at home that really gets me up in the morning.

NUXX (NUXX), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Its only a Promo. The official single wont be out until around august. The B-Side: "Memphis Bells" was way more minimal than anything i thought he would do... Its like 1990 all over again.

Now that frightens me a bit.

NUXX (NUXX), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Since I haven't played this yet, I'm imagining it's a remix of Jay-Z vs Motley Crue.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Nuxx,

Tell all about the tunes you have please?

What does Memphis Bells remind you of from 1990?

Splitscreen, Friday, 11 June 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

whatcha think Dan?

Splitscreen, Friday, 11 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, I like this... .wtf

HAMBURGER NEURON GROUP (ex machina), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

HOLY SHIT

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like the draggy, awful parts of _The Fat Of The Land_ never happened!!!!!

SEE PEOPLE THIS IS WHY LIAM HOWLETT IS ONE OF MY MUSICAL GODS.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Initially I was 'okay then' but then the full BASS GROWL kicked in. And I am happy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

This song needs remixez

HAMBURGER NEURON GROUP (ex machina), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, that synth melody and other things sure as hell comes across as a twisted Depeche Mode reworking (ergo, YAY!).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

the high pitched singing part rulzzzzzz

HAMBURGER NEURON GROUP (ex machina), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha it's like if _Speak And Spell_ was any good!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

let's do the time warp

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha it's like if _Speak And Spell_ was any good!

Nicely phrased, sir. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The entire track is basically "I CRUSH YOU WITH BLUDGEONING BLACK-HEARTED SYNTH TWEE".

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

(ie, you have dippy, chirpy synth melody burbling happily above evil bassbin-killing thump and thud, sort of like a rabid Godzilla wearing a banana clip with streamers in it)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Somewhere, the Postal Service is weeping.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

"sort of like a rabid Godzilla wearing a banana clip with streamers in it)"

Nice.

Sansai, Friday, 11 June 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"Memphis Bells" Is just Howlett fucking about, like he´s revisiting some earlier days. Monotone, but it really works in a DJ perspective.

NUXX (NUXX), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

it's cool! it just doesn't feel much at all like Prodigy, but that's okay (and probably necessary now)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

that said, i think it's got a touch of his old editing style, and those cute little hooks here and there that are a bit his W30 'live' style still

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Nuxx - how did you come by these tunes? Promo?

Would you mind sharing via soulseek?

Splitscreen, Friday, 11 June 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Fookin' hell, that's ace. Just when I thought they completely disappeared in mediocrity, they introduce something slamming like that...

Ian Beverly (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Initially I was 'okay then' but then the full BASS GROWL kicked in. And I am happy.
That was exactly what I was thinking. At first, it was "this is the wimpiest attempt at electro ever", and then it was "this will sound even more awesome when he mixes it into "Poison" during the live shows".

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it to be "The Dirtchamber Sessions", but with Liams own voice and production. A lot of dynamite and old-school breaks in the new material. And the stuff with Twista, Kool Keiths and (especially)Juliette Lewis breaks rocks. Ive only got 7 tracks, but i´m surprised.

Sorry, cant share it.

NUXX (NUXX), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Why not? Afarid it'll jeopardise your chances of getting back into the group, Leroy?

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Now thats just scary!!!

NUXX (NUXX), Friday, 11 June 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

pretty fun track, sounds a bit like Daft Punk's "Short Circuit".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

blows that new chem bros single outta the hard drive...

harshaw (jube), Friday, 11 June 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the surprise of the year so far for me. I FUCKIN LOVE THIS TRACK!

maria b (maria b), Friday, 11 June 2004 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

TAKE THAT ALL OF YOU HATERS!

I have never felt smugger than I do right now (which is pretty amazing when you think about it).

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

everyone otm.

also nate in st p to thread! (even though he seems to be in a self-imposed exile or something)

christhamrin (christhamrin), Friday, 11 June 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

liam gets a little too busy with this near the end - but overall pretty sexy

Scott Warner (thream), Saturday, 12 June 2004 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

someone must leak the rest of those tracks NOW.

ohmygodthebass!

minolta (minolta), Saturday, 12 June 2004 02:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm... I mean, it's pretty good (and a damn sight better than FOTL), but Dave Tipper and Si Begg must be rolling their eyes right about now.

Sean Thomas (sgthomas), Saturday, 12 June 2004 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

downloading it now...please let this be better then "baby's got a temper" which was just silly noodling.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Saturday, 12 June 2004 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

allright it's pretty good. maybe i'm just listening to it on a laptop to make it sound a bit less then it really is.

I dig it, but you guys are getting a bit too into it.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Saturday, 12 June 2004 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Um yeah. Sorry, got to interrupt here. The track's horrible on a laptop. You have to burn it and then take it to your main system w/ woofers dood. And, no... I definitely wouldn't say that we're "getting a bit too into it," (it's fuckin Prodigy... not some overly-cerebral pomo shite). And who are Tipper and Begg? Proper Prodigal listening for the Pitchfork punchdrunk set?

maria b (maria b), Saturday, 12 June 2004 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course its horrible on a Lap Top!!! WTF

NUXX (NUXX), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

dave tipper ought not to roll his eyes at anybody. fuel = one of the most overrated labels ever (i.e. anybody rated it in the first place)

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, point taken about glitchy beats and bass noises, but you truly must be kidding if you mean to say there's ever been a nu skool breaks tune you could call even remotely catchy.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

There's been some... not many, I'll grant you.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

The bit near the start where Howlett gives you a false sense of where the track is going only to go all "We have explosive" on us is awesome.

If I have one criticism it is with the high synth line.... it takes away from the coolness of the rest of the track IMO.

Splitscreen, Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean, point taken about glitchy beats and bass noises, but you truly must be kidding if you mean to say there's ever been a nu skool breaks tune you could call even remotely catchy.

Vahid, I guess that's kind of what I'm getting at: yes, it's got a vocal (and yes, it's not Keith, so bonus points there), but I don't think anyone on the thread's really called it out for high praise -- and besides that and the electro synth line, what's the hook? It seems like everyone's focusing on the bass line, hence the comparison...

Maria & NUXX: good point on crapness of PC speakers, I'll try it out in the car tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating this by any stretch -- just remembering not-dissimilar Buckfunk 3000 tunes (ignored in most quarters) and wondering whether the difference is the Prodigy name or something I'm not hearing yet.

Sean Thomas (sgthomas), Saturday, 12 June 2004 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa, I thought I'd never give a flying shit about Prodigy ever again, but this is pretty cool. I read from somewhere that the new LP is gonna be just Liam, no Keith or Maxim. Which is a good thing, I suppose, if it'll mean Liam will avoid all the horrible excesses and rockisms of The Fat of the Land.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 12 June 2004 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Though, to be fair, I guess Liam is even more to blame for The Fat of the Land than Keith or Maxim (who was never that bad). I mean, the worst track on that LP was the one with the Kula Shaker singer, which had nothing to do with Keith & Maxim.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 12 June 2004 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoa, that bassline is huge! There's not much else to it, but it's certainly comparable to similar bassline=hook tracks such as "U Know Y" (used in Sugababes "In The Middle"), "Doom's Night", "Safisfaction", "Loneliness", etc.

Siegbran (eofor), Saturday, 12 June 2004 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't 'In The Middle' the first catchy nu skool breaks tune though?

Crickets Dance On Tequila Booty (Barima), Saturday, 12 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

How do I know that this track's a classic? All I can say is that I can't wait to hear this when I walk into a great club in the city,... and there's not many dance tracks that I'd fuck to, but this is one of them.

maria b (maria b), Saturday, 12 June 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I think criticizing the high synth line is akin to criticizing the basic format of a Prodigy tune (aka massively punishing beat with psychotic random synths, sound effects and samples echoing around it like demented pixies).

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 12 June 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it almost sounds like something from the bootleg days of a few years back

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Saturday, 12 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

http://fuckyouonfriday.com/2008/04/04/who-the-fuk-is-eddy-cochran/

omg

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 17 April 2008 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

This would sound 10x better if it had the Fat of the Land drum sound.
